When I've started reading manga online, I used to prefer one shot manga. Because I didn't have either enough time or patience to stay focused for many weeks on a single story. After a couple of months though, I've started reading "longer" manga. But I would suggest you to start reading one shot manga too, till you find out what's your favorite genre.
One of my favorite online manga readers is Manga Fox. Just use advanced search and you'll find many manga and most of them in a really good scanned quality.

Major bumpage time, in case there are still manga you want to read.

My school library has a manga section, and I've read a lot of them. i've found the best to be Bleach and Death Note, however Pokemon Adventures is really good too.

I think Pokemon was way better than the anime series, as they are radically different. For the casual Pokemon fan, it's really good.

Anima+ was the first maga I read I think. That was a pretty easy to read manga but then I moved on to the shonen jump manga's so you could try any of those.

I really like Naruto. There was this one that I was reading a few years back, and for some reason this thread mad me think of it. All I can remember about it is this kid is a magician, and he goes to teach at an all girls school for his training. He then ends up kissing 3 girls, that way the girls can transform (3 different modes), and help him fight the bad guys. But I can not think what the name of that one is. If somebody knows, please let me know. I need something good to read while I wait on Naruto English Dubbed episodes to come out, and the next manga.

Depends on what your interests are. I would recommend a slice of life anime if you dont want an action oriented manga to read. it has no plot, though, and mostly centers on the character's interactions with each other.

Naruto was my first, I still read it almost religiously, the  Dragon Ball series is pretty good too, pretty much anything from Shonen Jump is good for noobs because they are really interesting and every series starts off relatively simple and grows in complexity as it progresses which will be helpful if you ever get into the really obscure side of manga.
