i'm not sure if that is the problem, but it coincides with the day that the problem arose. none of the games will run now, all that happens when i click the link to play the game is the page reloads. is there any way around this?

Alright, just didn't want to jump the gun; I've had problems with 4 and went back to 3 - now using 3.6.17 with no problems. I'm not sure if 4 is entirely compatible, but try uninstalling 4 and reinstall 3 and see if it helps. I'm fairly sure it will, but hopefully someone else will reply and say whether the update of 4 is still compatible.

I know there have been some problems with the latest firefox, but given the present state of the site recovering from the hacker attack, that's more likely the issue. Plus, the RGR has been going up and down periodically as David updates and transfers things, which he usually covers in the announcements.
