Dunno, they probably made it easier to appeal to younger audiences

Or maybe they can't think of complicated mazes now

Myself I would rather have an imposably hard game than so easy you can beat it in a day or two the first time you play through it.

I prefer the (almost 8-bit) 16-bit-128 bit (Sega Dreamcast) eras.

I prefer games of now, the music is annoying in mot older games, no offence, but some are otherwise catchy and pleasant. I like games of now because they are able to give them a lot more depth.. but the older side scrollers may be simpler, yet they still have good plot and fun. I just can't stand looking at the ones with terribly done animations, or pixelation...

Well, in the NES days, developers had much less to work with in terms of memory and the the size of the chip, so games needed to provide some kind of real challenge in order for them to really last. Games these days are easier but complement that by giving you much more freedom, and still feel good when you accomplish something.

Well, the trend today is to appeal to a wider range of audiences, and that means cleaner graphics and easier games. A significant example would be Super Mario Galaxy. If you even compare it to the 64 version, you'll see that the 64 version has much more difficult levels. Galaxy may look much nicer with its space theme and everything, but the levels are made much simpler in order to appeal to young audiences that won't just ragequit.

Myself, I find games of today being a bit on the easy side. There are a few games you can find every once in a while that'll challenge you, but in the NES days, virtually every game was difficult to beat.

Well, the older games do supply more of a challenge but that was okay back then. In the 80s, when you bought a game you were kind of forced to play that game. You could only afford so many games so you had to play what you had. If it was difficult then you just had to get better at the game and acquire the skills necessary to overcome the game's difficulty. However, in the present day people get bored easier. If they get stuck on part of a game that they can't beat they just quit the game and download a new one off of X-box marketplace, PSN, etc. So, the main goal of today's games is to keep players playing. If you make a game too difficult, people won't play it. Personally though, I like a challenge and that's why I find older games to be quite interesting.

I want to see what would happen if you took someone who plays all modern games, and have them play the original super mario bros
