Does anyone here suffer from nightmares? I do, I suffer with chronic nightmares. I was curious to know if anyone here knows anything about dreams. And also if you too have nightmares and what you do to control them.

I had nightmares and a child. My mom always told me that when I was having a nightmare, say with monsters, to put party hats on them and have a party instead.
I was young and impressionable at the time so it really did help. I guess it was a form of lucid dreaming being able to have that effect on them.
I'd say try and do the same as that, find some information on lucid dreaming, what I have is sparse and incomplete.
I know counting, or concentrating on certain things while falling asleep helps.

I hope this helps, at least a little. I know realizing you're in a dream and changing it can be challenging, but I always found it easier to realize in a bad dream than a good one.

Sorry about my lack of good advice. xP

I can say I know a bit more than average about dreams...I'm no dream expert or anything. Dreaming and Nightmares are normal. Nightmares in adults are often spontaneous. But they can also be caused by a variety of factors and underlying disorders.

Some people have nightmares after having a late-night snack, which can increase metabolism and signal the brain to be more active. A number of medications also are known to contribute to nightmare frequency. Drugs that act on chemicals in the brain, such as antidepressants and narcotics, are often associated with nightmares. Non-psychological medications, including some blood pressure medications, can also cause nightmares in adults.

Withdrawal from medications and substances, including alcohol and tranquilizers, may trigger nightmares.

Sleep deprivation may contribute to adult nightmares, which themselves often cause people to lose additional sleep.

There can be a number of psychological triggers that cause nightmares in adults. For example, anxiety, depression and sleeping disorders.

Hope I gave you some insight on where your nightmares potentially come from.

Let's start with some practical solutions to avoiding nightmares. Stress, sleeping on your back and over eating just before bed can cause all kinds of nightmares. Find a few minutes each day to de-stress. If you sleep on your back try changing positions and do not eat just before going to bed. Basically de-stress before sleeping.
My other advice is to get a hold of their thoughts! Fear and panic are the worst enemies in dealing with nightmares.
I don't have to many nightmares that I remember, none recently.

Just know how to wake up yourself once you're aware that you're having a nightmare. Usually, you wouldn't be able to move your body except your head, so move your head until you're awake. Next is to not be lazy to go and drink lots of water until you're fully awake. Jump for a bit, maybe watch a movie but don't eat any snacks. Then sleep.

I'm always sleep deprived, so I usually have nightmares, and I'm used to it. I can't make myself sleep unless I'm sleepy, so I always end up sleeping at 3-5 am and waking up at 6am( if there's no school, if there is, then at 5am) I'm not having a hard time waking up, and I'll just take a nap when I feel sleepy again. And... I usually have sweet dreams as well. :3
Hmm... lets say 35 percent nightmares, 60 percent sweet dreams, and 5 percent dreams that are just normal.

The thing with me is, I've been diagnosed with chronic nightmares due to past life trauma's. I've done a lot of these suggestions and for whatever reason I can never control the nightmares I have. I don't know why.

The frequency of nightmares depends on how depressed during the period of time I am. If I'm having normal dreams, they usually may as well be nightmares...

My normal dreams can get messed up, and my nightmares could be about teeth or even pants... Yeah... I had a nightmare that wasn't a nightmare though... Oh wait, you're asking about dreams not my hatred of that remake of The Mummy. Sorry. *tries to burn that DVD anyway*

I kind of enjoy nightmares to an extent. Not sure why. Is Mare sitting on the chest at the foot of the bed if you're enjoying the nightmare?

The way that I see it, it is time to face things on a much more psychological level, and do what your psychoanalysis requires.

You've stated that you know the source of your nightmares, so consider the sources and your interactions with them in your conscious state. Do you try to avert certain triggers? Do you have a certain ideology about related events or objects relating to what is the root cause?

It is impossible for me to give any adequate advice under these circumstances, but I am willing to provide what limited assistance that I can.

I did have nightmares all the time when I was younger. I still do very often just not all the time. All I can say is that I heard to try not to eat sugar and sweets before night night time.

My recent dreams would have nightmares(killed, stalked, etc.) about 3 years ago, but now i find them entertaining like any other dream what i find odd is that i can control my dreams to some degree. if i'm lucky i'll remember that this is just a dream and change out whatever i want, although it takes lots of willpower, lol. So it might go something like this: i see someone i know in real life that i don't like in my dream. I'd tell them to get out and get my "constipation concentration" face on and they'd disappear. five seconds later they would appear again and i'd repeat the process. they usually leave permanently the second time around. Also if i wake up from a dream i can close my eyes again and resume my dream while awake, although the atmosphere of the dream feels different. Whew, that was alot to talk about.
