So since Thursday, PS3's network has been down for an "unknown" reason. I really wanted to play Free Realms and other online games with friends (especially Free Realms, since I'm paying for the premium membership) and I can't access my Playstation+ features.

Since everyone who has a PS3 is experiencing this, I was wondering if you'd think that Sony would reimburse us for the days we weren't able to access the service (the people who pay for premium, anyway).

Kinda sucks that it's been down for awhile, And it just had to be the days I actually have time to sit and enjoy gaming

I was looking over the official playstation forums earlier today due to getting a message that the network was undergoing maint. What I found out was that Sony had a malicious attack on the PSN. Thats why they shut it down so they could fix it and get everything running the way they want it too. We should be able to know more if need be, let me go ahead and post whats going on as an official thing so people might actually know.

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.



Due to this, I would probably say that yea, they will reimburse for the downtime. I'm just glad its being fixed and they are actually taking the time to try for improvements too, I know the last few weeks I've had some issues with accessing the network. Nothing to major, for example when pulling up the store to see whats new, I would have to exit and reenter 2 or 3 times just for it to finally come up. Maybe this will fix that too.


Hope everyone with a PS3 on these forums finds this information useful.

Yeah it sucks, though I currently am playing offline. Thats cool to hear someone one here has Playstation Plus.

Everyone will have psn+ soon.sony have said they plan to bring the servers on within a week.the store wont be up for a month.everyone will get 1 month of ps+ free,those who have it get 30 days credit.they are going to offer some free games and stuff and some special system stuff.also,anyone who had marvel v capcom etc will get ps exclusive stuff.sony said this was for starters as an apology and a reward for our patience.
Theyve added encryptions and firewalls and software activity monitors to prevent further outages.you will need to install a patch and change your user password on the ps3 it was actiated on.i think this is fair.

I MADE A FUNNY.

My PSP needs a few more games, and it's down, such a "downer".

Oh man. It's been three whole weeks since PSN has been down and there's no concrete deadline for its return.

The worst part of this all is...

I have no way to get online trophies now.

Thankfully most of the games catching my attention don't have online trophies (just beat Mass Effect 2 and going to work on 100% completion while PSN is down).


I keep hearing that they're going to give us 2 games for free and PS+ for compensation, along with free identity theft protection for up to $1 million. Pretty good step in the right direction, and a few good methods for damage control/compensation.

Unfortunately I'm not so lucky. Three games I'm trying to platinum in require online play. So to get them I have to wait.

I wonder what the games would be.

It's been down for a few weeks because of a hacker. Sony was using an outdated security server, and this is partly their fault, but they at least gave us a bow of apology. The hackers stole information on each PSN user, and sorry if I scare you with that information but I can't say what happened without going into detail.

Sony is working hard to get it safe. Can't play without protection, now can we? No really. Don't play Free Realms without protection. This isn't a pun or joke. Okay, it KINDA is.

For some reason, the FBI was going after Sony, and NOT the people who stole credit card numbers. Seriously. A bunch of cyber terrorism gets forgotten in favor of a company who just happened to not ever decide, "Hey guys! It's 2010! Let's upgrade our security servers!"

Heck, even a million forum posts have been made about this. Just go on Gamefaqs if you want to see what happens when gamers get antsy. It's a mockery of this sub-culture of charming humans who are held back by one thing: The need to eat and go to the bathroom.

Just play single player games for now. Heck, dust off a few PS2 games or something. I was playing Resident Evil 4 just the other day. Had fun. May I recommend... Oblivion or maybe Bayonetta? Those will do. Maybe some... Naughty Bear? Okay, maybe you will hate Naughty Bear since the controls aren't the best... It's awesome, though. Highly recommend it.

Now, if you will excuse me, I will be screaming the name of Odinn so he can shapeshift into another PSN.

I'd like to hear more about this "2 free games" thing. I'm assuming it's something we'd download. And is there a limit as how long we have to get these games?

Cyro Xero : I'm just assuming they are games that are free. Or... They'll give us the first two Spyro games. Okay, that's just the bitter part of me hoping I can play through the first two Spyro games for the first time in years. My copies of the first two games in that series died...

That aside, pretty sure they'll let us choose two games out of the PSone Classics section. It makes more sense than selecting the game for us, and it's always nice to have PSone games on your PS3. It would be silly for them to give us a choice of two free current PS3 games that are downloadable.

I doubt there will be a time limit to having the downloads of the two free games on the PS3. For one, they probably aren't making the two free games thing a bundle with the 30 day PSN+ trial.

I'd rather they give us PS2 games. Too bad they don't have those in the store. And I'm already a Plus member. Some things I get for free already. Hm.

i am happy with what Sony us giving us to relieve the anguish. I never used credit card to buy stuff on the store, rather I used the paid PSN cards, so no credit card info taken of mine. I'm just glad they will update and improve security.
