Yeah, DARKANINE is on the right track. I do ROM hacking as a passionate hobby, so I can help you if you have any questions.

In addition to the tools on WhackAHack, there are many other things you can explore too, such as editing the Hexadecimal system. It probably won't make much sense at this point (you're just a beginner), but in the future I am willing to help you with it.

I personally use this site actually

http://www.swamperttools.co.nr/

It has a lot of tools, that are helpful in hacking pokemon.

As for help hacking from there, my best suggestion is to google it.

like

"How to hack text in pokemon"
or
"How to change pokemon moves hack"

Always be clear it's a hack, and that it's pokemon and google is your friend.

romhacking.net is a classic rom hacking  site with tons of tools and information. I just did a search for pokemon in both the utilities and documentation sections and there area few things you might find useful.

It has been many years since I hacked roms, but it should still be the same methods as I used.  Basically, you need a tool to decompile/decompress the rom as well as a tool for editing it. A basic hex editor may work . The tricky part is figuring out what parts of the coding means what. Usually this involves alot of trial and error followed by more errors.

Editing a rom can be very challenging but it is really satisfying after you see the results of what you changed. You may be in luck, occasionaly for popular games some one will make an all-in-one rom editing/hacking tool. If you can find one of these I suggest you use it.

Thought I'd inject some experienced programmer/hacker knowledge in here. Here's the reality: To hack NES, SNES, Sega, Gameboy, GBA, etc games /truly/ you need knowledge of the programming language assembly.... reverse engineering.... and basic experience at least with assemblers/disassemblers and hex editing. It is a fact you cannot get around. All those 'tools' you and others use were created by real hackers who do know these things. If either: 1. There are no tools made to 'hack' what you want to or 2. There are tools but they won't do what you want them to....  you will eventually have to learn one of the aforementioned skills. And it's not as simple as downloading a tool and knowing what to click. .
