sonicmcmuffin : If you ever had proof of that, you could have a lawsuit. By law, they can't refuse to give anyone a job based on race, gender, disabilities, etc. It is considered discrimination and could land any employer in a world of hurt if they did so and got caught.

I got fired from my first job when I was 17. I was a part time cashier at a small gas station, and I would sell smokes to my friends who were under aged. The owners caught on eventually and I was fired.

People make budget cuts and to meet their new budgets they have to cut some people. Luckily I have not had anyone close to me get laid off but I know a few people who it has happened too. I hope it never happens to me.

Indeed, I have been laid off from a job. The company I worked for was just in the process of moving into a brand new facility and combine that with the industry hitting a bit of a slow period overall, a number of people from all different departments ended up being laid off. It is a shame because I really did like working there and was being paid pretty good money as well.
