My vote goes for Snivy. It has some pretty unique base stats, and I'm rather curious as to what moveset you will give it by the end of the game. (i.e., I need Serperior strategies; it has good enough base stats, I'm just not sure how to use it yet. Besides, Fire/Fighting is overdone, and my max-IV-is-13 Samurott ruined the Oshawott line for me... ) That, and I don't see teams that use Grass very often unless the starter is a Grass type.

I think you should use Snivy because of the fact that it's an uphill battle for most of the game; anyone can pick Tepig and completely pwn the half the gyms with its type advantage, so the people who are more likely to need team structure advice, either directly or indirectly, will be using Snivy. Also, although the fact that the shift in tactics will make things more difficult, it would be good to pick a different type for a change of pace.

Any starter will suffice for explaining the story, but I feel that Snivy would be the best choice for helping people with battle tactics, as they will have less opportunities to simply use their starter as a crutch. Using Snivy in the LP will indirectly help others who need help with battle tactics who also picked Snivy. That's why you should use Snivy.
