Yes I have... No it's not easy... Just today i hit myself in the ankle with an axe swinging backwards after an awkward miss. I'm actually kind of awful at it but I hope to learn. Considering most of you play Pokemon I'm assuming you've never had to do any hard labor in your lives (I'm half joking). Anyways... I don't recommend splitting wood because it's HARD!!!! I arrogantly walked up to my stepdad this afternoon and said "Let me try this". I have the accuracy down but not alot of power behind it which leads me to chip away at big thick pieces of wood, and then he laughs at me and splits it with one swing. Then we have a mixed drink and I make fun of myself for sucking.

I have. For one whole winter it was my job to cut wood for the entire family... we used a LOT of wood that year. two hours of cutting wood a day for like two months. It's not hard, but not at all fun...

Kryptic : The trick is to let the axehead do the work. The weight of it will drive it through the stump or wood. You just need to get a high arc and let gravity do the rest.

I've split wood in late fall since I was 8 or 9 or so. We have fires in our house and a lot of property where there were abundant trees to cut and burn. It wasn't that it was cold, my family just always liked open fires in fire pits and fire places.

You learn it after a while. Keep after it and wear good, strong shoes.

Yes I have split wood before....I have family that lives in the South of Chile where they chop wood to fill in the fire place to keep warm temperature. It was enjoyable so I did most of the wood chopping while my cousin taking pictures.

No. I'm 99% sure I would fail epically. The idea of trying that has always freaked me out, because... It's swinging an axe around.

Only to make a piece of firewood smaller... not easy at all even then. I wouldn't mind trying to get into doing it with larger pieces, it seems like a good upper body workout.

Yes one year my brother spent the winter without any utilities in his home so I helped him split some wood after he almost cut off his thumb doing the same. He tried to steady the log with one hand while swinging his ax with the other. Brilliant huh?

Kryptic : Just keep your legs/feets wide splited from begining so the axe can go between them instead of in them if you should happen to miss with a strike. Then just take a firm and steady grip and swing it whit use of the gravity and perhaps it chops if cordinated well

Yes, I have, it's not hard. Every summer when I go camping I split some wood for the fire. I'm always a little nervous when I do it, but only because I flashback to my dad chopping off the end of his thumb a few years ago.

I have split wood with an axe before. It was not difficult for me, but the only problem I had was that the head of the axe slipped of the handle. I am a bit paranoid when it comes to things like this, so I was nervous to say the least after that.

Split wood everyday for a week once during primary school, it was surprisingly fun. Do I get man-points for doing it with an axe I made myself? Practical history assignments were the best~

I've done it before. With a bunch of different axes and axe types, actually. I prefer splitting axes, I find I get the best results the fastest with those. It takes forever plus infinity to cut through a tree though Not a living one, eco nuts, a recently fallen one that was blocking a hiking trail.

Yes,I have actually split wood with an axe. It was quite a few years ago, but my parents used to have a log cabin about six hours by car from the city I live in and when the family used to go their in the summer and what not, both my brother and I would be asked to help out with the wood chopping.

Yeah, lots of times... you just have to start with your least used hand at the top of the handle... then when you swing down, slide that hand towards the other. Of course it requires hand-to-eye coordination, but that's where practice falls into place... it shouldn't be hard if you attempt it at least 20 times over depending on how bad you miss lol.

Actually, yes. I had to do it last year when I went camping. It 's not very difficult, but I was terrified that I'd wind up hurting myself or someone else. >.< (I didn't, by the way.)
