hackerman : LAWL! THAT IS FUNNY! Anyway, I think it more like went to sleep, and auto having a dream to visit their own family, so that they wont get lonely. Think about if pokeball can hold more than 1 pokemon? THAT WOULD BE NIGHTMARE BECAUSE OF TIGHT AREA!!!

I've heard many interpretations of what it's like in a Pokeball. From what I understand, the Pokemon is converted into pure energy so that they have no feelings whatsoever in the Pokeball (but they can apparently still hear). Maybe it's just a giant room or lounge in there. That would be nice and comfortable.

I think inside,  it's a huge area filled with open land to play around in and trees with lots of berries and there's a pond to swim in and nice area to rest after a long battle.  That would be nice.

I always believed that the pokemon was transformed into an energy like state, that shrinks the pokemon to fit inside the pokeball (Refer to Ash's first catch) as you can see the pokemon swirl around into a red substance, before the ball snaps shut, but the form of the pokemon still takes place. From there, I believe when a pokemon is caught, it registers the pokemon in the pokeball, or perhaps does something harmless to their DNA, which makes the pokeball able to return them with a transmitter beam that will absorb the pokemon back at a distance. This would also as well make it so other pokeballs could not work on that caught pokemon. So with all of this, my opinion is that inside a pokeball, it looks just exactly like it is. The pokemon just stay there in a small form.

When I played Pokémon I always imagined it as a small world in the pokeball. The pokemon would have a nice little house on an island and could play on the beach.  To tell the truth though, the hibernation idea makes a lot more sense...

For a serious answer I would say it's a large warp space in which Pokemon can rest in
