The mean radius of the moon is 1,737.10 km a little over a quarter of an Earth. So the moon is definitely bigger than 3 houses...

The moon is way bigger than the ummm, umm. It's bigger than 20 houses. Yeah lets go with that. I'm horrible at math anyways.

It depends on your perception of the moon.

On a clear night with the full moon out I can put my hand out and cover the moon. - It's not that big.

In nursery rhymes many times it is shown as something that cows can jump over. -It's still not that big.

In many folklore the moon is depicted as a deity or the source of godly power.- It's awesomely big.

In NASA statistics the Moon's mass is 0.07349 compared to Earth's 5.9736. This meaning you could probably fit a couple moons comfortably inside the earth. - It's a small fry.


The Moons diameter is 3,476 kilometers or 2,160 miles. (----) <- It would take at least a day of none stop driving at 55-75mph to drive all the way across it. - It's big.

I always thought that the moon was like 1/8th the size of Earth, but apparently ^ has proven me wrong.

I used to think that the moon was small but now I don't think so anymore.

The moon is probably not as big as the Earth, but since Ken's explanation, it might be bigger than I expected

cop7000 : I know that you posted this almost a year ago, but this thread was bumped and I saw your comment about the earthquake in Japan. I just wanted to clarify. Earthquakes can not change the orbit of the earth. The has many plate origins where crust emerges from, moving the plates. Earthquakes occurs when plates are being pushed together or sliding close enough to cause some rupturing. Orbit is controlled by gravitational pull. Plate tectonic activity has nothing to do with the gravitational pull that the sun has on the earth or the earth has on the moon. 

The moon is pretty huge. Of course, when you compare it to starts or other planets, it is small. But when you compare it to things in this earth, it is enormous. It is definitely larger than anything you have ever seen. The great wall of China might be visible from space, but you couldn't see it from 240,000 miles away, but you can obviously see the moon from that distance. Heck, they craters of the moon are so huge that you can see them from that distance.

Yeah the moon is a lot bigger than you thought. But since all the math stuff has been put out there I guess that's all I'll say.

Going purely based off of the data I can get from Google: "The Moon has approximately 1/4 Earth's diameter, 1/50 Earth's volume, and 1/80 Earth's mass."

I think the moon is one - half of the size of the earth ( this is my own opinion , don't be angry )

When I was younger I always thought the moon was bigger than the Earth even though it seemed so small in the sky. Now I think the moon is 1/4 of the Earth's size. I could be terribly wrong though. I'll shall search this on Google .
