If anyone saw tonight's edition of Sportscenter or Outside the Lines Sunday morning they would see what happens during soccer matches in Europe. I saw something I didn't think would happen in any civilized country. We're not talking about a persons morals, beliefs, but the color of their skin. People were taunting black players just for being black. One of the clips had a fan with a megaphone yelling something like, "Go back, go back. You're a son of a .... whether you are orange or black." Another clip showed a coach trying to encourage a player by saying something to the effect of, "Give it to him he's black, show that piece of ... that you are better than him." Other times people have started chanting "monkey" when ever time a black player touched the ball. They have thrown bananas at players because they were black. There are even many fans that put up a facist hand sign. And it's not individuals this is many people in the crowd. It got so bad that one guy picked up the ball and just started walking off the field, and at another point one could be heard crying "No mas, no mas." (no more, no more). Fifa is trying to think up a way to try to get the racist stuff out of cheering. Any players, officials, or coaches caught saying something racist will lose the team 3 points (basically a loss) making it very hard to advance past group play.

I never knew it was that bad. Anyone saying anything racist like that should be fired. And if your a fan, doing anything remolty racist (throwing bananas, swaring, hand gestures) you should be put on a soccer black list, and never aloud to enter a stadium to see soccer again.

i agree with u bb85. it has to be controlled now... and if preventing them from entering the stadium is the only way then it has to be done. Whats the good of a sports game if people of different racies dont want to go to other countried because they will be insulted... Its stupid... its not like black persosn go around yelling out crap about white people... so why the hell would a white person do it to a black person. Its just stupid... i believe in equality...i also hate incompitence... thats why my... saying in life for me has always been "we are equal not in who we are but in what we can do" i know its corney.... but thats what ive always thought. Anyone of any race can do anything...

They lose 3 points? What the f*** is that? I mean, they should ban them for life from soccer or something and make people chanting these things (in the stands) also ban from attending games or something.
It's not a surprise or anything, because there is a lot of racism, but not in something as multiracial as sports .... this is pretty sad.

I'm not surprised that everybody started a fight. If some bunch of people in a group said a bunch of s*** then I would stop them from making racial comments or other reason and if they didn't stop I would have to fight them. What the hell you never hardly see that in america.

Yeah, you don't see any racism like that around here, the only racism you see around here is racism against white people. Whether it's against blacks or whites, racism is bad.

People who like soccer (teh euopiens) are really passionate about there game. Sometimes you see them on telly, there team loses so they go on riots and everything through the city.

This is uncalled for. Some soccer fans are absolutely horrible. When it gets like that, it's not a game anymore. It's a nightmare for the players.

Yeah I'm with you guys. I believe Fifa said if the racial remarks got bad from the audience they may empty the stadium. And Justin this is the World Cup, if a countryies team wins it basically makes their decade. People in France were still going on about how they beat Brazil like 2 years after it happened. Losing 3 points makes it extremely difficult to advance. But yeah that doesn't really sound like much. I just also found it ironic how in Europe Americans are thought to be dumb, unsophisticated etc, but then you hear about this. And in America this would not be tolerated. There are some pretty dumb people in America, but there are dumb people everywhere.

But yeah something has to be done about this. They should ban players and fans and whomever else does something like this.

In America, nothing remotely close to that would be tolerated, you never see riots over things like sports here, if a team loses, everyone goes out and gets hammered.. No rioting.. The riots in America were over the racial injustices southerners, and some northerners (mostly in big cities) were doing toward African-Americans... Like I always say, and people are going to think I'm ignorant for this, I've never met a European I've liked, and I doubt I ever will... Glenny tell Detoirt not to riot then,because they have rioted when they won championships. Rioting has happened before, but it started happening during soccer matches over there. Someone threw a flare at one team's goalie once, it was insane to see. Though I don't see what Europeans see in soccer, though I guess I can't really say much since I primarily watch baseball. Soccer just doesn't appeal to me, I played for a few years in middle school, and it was fun, but watching a game (unless a friend is playing) doesn't get me excited.

Well, it doesn't happen round' here... Minneapolis/St.Paul, never riot... Then again, they never really win anything... (World Series in like.... 91'.. didn't result in any rioting)... Thats about it..
