I think that the first gen pokemon are the best, I personally like alakazam better because of his speed and sp. attack. He doesn't even give the other pokemon a chance to take advantage of his poor defense stat.

Alakazam can use stronger physical and special attacks...
Gardevoir has better physical and special defense...

Relatively speaking, Alakazam was always more difficult to obtain then Gardevoir, but for good reason, as it was powerful.
