Is there any way I can make my SNES less yellow?

It's supposed to be sly gray, not puke yellow.

The left is what it's supposed to be, and the right is what mine looks like.

I know that it was caused because the plastic oxidized and became like this, but I really need some way to fix it.

Umm... paint it?

I personally think it looks cooler with that yellow tint to it. My SNES is currently in between those two.

the_casualty : I can't paint it unless I use something super strong like primer, but I'm scared it could damage my system.

I personally think it looks ugly.

Instead of paint, try covering it with paper. You could even wrap it with X-mas paper and leave gaps for the games and controllers.

i wouldn't try paint.

Most old school Super NES owners know the drill. After a certain amount of time one half of the system turns a yellow-green color. Just the one half, not the whole thing, and it doesn't matter how well you take care of it. It's one of the great game-related mysteries of our time, but Vintage Computing and Gaming has just solved it:

Most plastics typically reflect the majority of UV light that hits them. However, if there are trace elements of catalyst residues (chemicals used in manufacturing of the plastic), such as if the manufacturer doesn't get the mixture quite right, then the residues present in the final plastic will absorb UV and drastically accelerate the degradation process.

In the case of the SNES plastic, however, the trigger of the oxidation process is clearly not UV light, but simple and unavoidable exposure oxygen in the air over time... Since two different batches of plastics had two different aging results... then there must have been a difference of additives between them.

Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about it, as the problem is an internal chemical reaction, and you would essentially have to destroy the system in order to even attempt a restoration. Green or gray, the SNES works just fine, so ignore it and get back to playing Chrono Trigger.

If i were you, I'd try to find a paint to match the regular color and then just color the very edges with sharpie so as not to damage the sysem. That, of you could just put some kind of design on your SNES and not worry about the original coloring. If you tried, you might be able to make your SNES look pretty cool that way.

Peroxide would be a bad idea, as it's an acid and wouldn't make the yellow go away, but it might eat at the plastic and potentially damage the system. The yellow discoloration may go pretty deep, depending on the chemical composition of your SNES, which varies between each SNES since it's impossible to make a consistent batch of the same molecules. You can't reverse the oxidization process, it's a chemical reaction and the molecules composing your SNES itself have irreversibly changed. If you really hate the color that much, your best bet is to take a sharpie or some other form of colorant that isn't as liquid and drippy as paint and won't go where you don't want it to. You'll never be able to restore it to its' original color though, sorry.
