I think one of the best guitarists was Jimi Hendrix! He was so good he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! So who do you think is the best guitarist ever or just in general?

Hendrix has to be up there in my top 3. My number 1 is Jimmie Page. He can do things with that guitar that no mere mortal can do. Jimi can make a guitar wail and sing but Jimmie has him beat, no doubt.

Led Zepplin also has a much larger catalog to select from. They have a ton more music then Hendrix. If Hendrix lived a few years longer, he may be my first. We'll never know.

I think that my favourite guitarist is Kirk Hammett from Metallica.

The best guitarists I know has to be John Petrucci of Dream Theater and Buckethead.

Jimi Hendrix would definitely have to be rated as one of the best of all time, especially due to his innovation to the world of guitar playing.

I think that Kirk Hammett would have to be included in a "best guitarist" thread just because of how easy he makes his crazy solos seem when he plays them. It is actually kinda scary.

Zakk Wylde is definitely at the top in my mind too; the music he made with Ozzy and now in his band Black Label Society are just amazing as far as guitar playing go.

Another few personal favorite guitar players of mine are Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads (R.I.P.), and Gravy (the lead guitarist for the heavy metal band Mushroomhead, one of my favorite bands). I think Tony Iommi would have to be included in the best guitarist discussion just due to the innovation; at the time that Black Sabbath were starting, no one had used as many blues riffs as they did and apply them to a rock/metal musical style in Sabbath, and the results were amazing.

On a side note, I am a huge Ozzy and Black Sabbath fan, and the rumors of Black Sabbath reuniting with its original members (Ozzy, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler) would be nothing short of amazing.

Both jims, tom, then slash me thinks. They are all amazing.

Carlos Sanatana then Buckethead. Carlos for just the sheer amount of awesome music he has created and then Buckethead because he is the new Jimi Hendrix.

God, Carlos can play the guitar. The best thing is that he moves along the range of notes and just doesn't strum the deep chords. I have the best of santana three cd set. I love me some Santana.

Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin obviously. But I think Joe Perry of Aerosmith could rock pretty hard too.

Well seeing as you said only one... I would say Eddie Van Halen.
Sure their music got pretty crappy but his guitar skills only got better. Hot For Teacher has one of the best riffs and licks ever made. If only he would stop smoking so we could enjoy his skills longer.

Personally my favorite was always Dimebag Darrell. He could make a guitar squeal it was truly amazing.

My favorite guitarist is lil'Wayne. He's the only person I know that is a guitarist.

My favorite Guitarist of all time is, was, and always will be Slash, he was in Guns and Roses and he is awesome at the guitar.
