Magikarp is a reddish-orange, medium-sized fish. Its notable characteristics include large, heavy scales. Its fins are primarily white, but it has two stiff, three-peaked fins on its back and stomach which are both yellow. It also has long yellow barbels.



Pokemon FireRed says that "It is virtually worthless in terms of both power and speed. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world." However, we all know that Magikarp is stronger than Hoppip. If for no other reason than it evolves into Gyrados.

Pokemon Heart Gold says "An underpowered, pathetic Pokémon. It may jump high on rare occasions, but never more than seven feet." Can YOU JUMP 7 feet? You must be weaker than Magikarp if you can't jump at least 7 feet.

It even hates itself... In Pokemon Mystery Dungeon "I'm the world's weakest Pokémon. You knew that, yes?" and "Look, my level went up! But I'm probably still weak..." indicate it is self aware of it's weakness.

Tell me that isn't amazing.

Anyway, what do you think about magikarp?

Magikarp is epic beyone epicness. It can do this to our world if it wants too.

Karp is good, but shiny karp is better. I once caught a Lv 95 shiny karp in platinum in the resort area.

magikarp is pretty good when learns tackle. so it's not useless

My Magikarp learned tackle. And I have bought like a million super potions and HP ups. I am gonna power level this Magikarp to hell. It's already level 25. IM NOT EVOLVING IT.

I catch one give it an epx. share and then it evolves very quickly so worthless till about level 15 ish

I bet that Magikarp has some magical ability, deep inside him, that's enough to release chaos upon the Pokemon world. At least, it's released when he evolves.

Magikarp becomes more epic when it learns tackle. But still better once it evolves. Shiny does look awesome.

Magikarp is OK, but only because I used it to get an easy lvl 100 Gyarados in Platinum :3. Go Resort Area!!!!
Oh yeah. And Magikarp. woo.

Magikarp isn't actually that bad. If you use an EXP share or simply switch him out in battle, he'll gain EXP pretty quickly. He's not "pathetic", he's just a bad ass inside. It's the inside that counts!

lol, if you wait to get the EXP share. I grinded my magikarp up at the beginning, just before the first gym, and had it get to level 25 by the end of the 2nd gym. It's a pain.

Lol...i never really realized that Magikarp isnt such a bad pokemon...i mean, it evolves into Gyrados (or however you spell it).

If you peel back Magikarp's scales and cook it, I bet it would make a good tasty fillet.

Magikarp is AWESOME! XD In the original games I always grind it to Gyrados and use that as my water pokemon. It was always frustrating at the beginning though and sometimes I got mad at it... I always have a hard time level grinding though...

i love magikarp because it evolve into epic dragon pokemon! GOOO GYRADOS!!

Magikarp is not that bad. He levels up quickly and at lv. 20 he evolves into gyrados so you just have to stick with it if you want a gyrados.

I don't hate Magikarp, and I don't like it for the sole reason it evolves into Gyarados. It isn't as weak as Sunkern or Hoppip.
