I don't like to lie but I prefer to "bend the truth" sometimes but I can be a compulsive lier. I wouldn't lie on a resume because sometimes it can come back to bite you in the interview when they ask "Do you REALLY speak spanish?" and then I might bend the truth and say "Well yeah..sort of but not anymore" Because in truth I took 3years of Spanish but can't remember very much besides Spanish I stuff.

But anyways I want to know honestly would you guys lie on your resume even if it was your dream job?

Lying on your resume would probably get you fired or lose you the job if someone found out. So if it's your dream job, that is probably the last thing you want to do.

Lying on a resume as you say "will always get back to you" ... I know because a friend of mine has a petty criminal record...he applied for a job, and checked the "never been arrested" box...he finally got the job...within a few days he was fired because the company found out he did in fact have a criminal record.

Lying on a resume isn't worth it...you'd be more respected for telling the truth.

Even if lying on your resume got you the job at initially, it would more than likely end up getting you fired later on. So no, I wouldn't lie on my resume.

DBDonald : No I don’t believe it is worth it… It is always better to be forthcoming with anything related to work. If one were to lie on a resume it might succeed in getting a position a person might be going for but, the drawback is that it might give those who are employing that person the impression that they might be qualified for something that they may in fact not be qualified for and at that point the person is pretty much in a catch 22.


They will be in a catch 22 because they really want the job likely because like most of us a person takes a position for financial gain and or benefits but, if they were to tell the would be employer that they are not qualified for that that employer wants them to do it will let them know that not only did the person lie on their resume but it also doesn’t speak well of that person’s character.


In my case I haven’t worked a traditional job in years and basically rely on my experience as a writer in instances where I am looking for a position. It is always good for any fellow writers on Vizzed whom may be reading this to know that if your going to use you’re writing experience on your resume that it might also be good to include samples of your work. It may make it seem like more of a writing portfolio than a resume in the eyes of some people but the reality is writing is work and for writers you want to show what you can do and that goes a long way.

Honesty is the best policy, my friend. If it was my dream job and I didn't have much to write, I'd include my own work (in my case, that would be an art portfolio, sketchbooks, etc.) I've come to notice that if you've got the talent, people will want to hire you. I had a teacher for graphic design who was offered a job that required a master's degree, but she doesn't have one but they didn't care. Bvd is right, just include some of your work to show them what you can do.

I have lied on a resume to get a job, but i wouldn't recommend risking it. Sometimes they might not check up on every little detail you write in your resume. Depending on the company, they might just take your word for it. I lost a job that i enjoyed doing over it. I could of been set for like with the career i had. Basically a few words screwed it up. So no, i wont do that ever again. It's best to be honest if you want to land that job. If you don't have those skills that they recommend then it's best if you get trained for them.

It's definitely not worth it, not just because it's wrong. Think about it, someone catches you lying on your resume, who is going to believe you when you go for another job?

I've never lied on my resume...even if its your dream job, if you lie and they find out, no only will you be fired, youll probably never get that job again, or anything remotely close

Lying isn't worth it, and bending the truth doesn't seem right. Instead, try to make the truth more appealing, if that makes any sense.

Ex:
-Used to be fluent in Spanish
OR
-Took four years of Spanish in High School

See the difference?

Yeah sure I'll lie about it, just cause I got a diploma doesn't make me a newbie at my job been doing it for years so I'm entitled to put the highest degree on my resume.

Nope, never lie on a resume, ever. All it takes is you getting on one person's bad side and they could look into it, expose you, and ruin your career.

That will lead you to getting fired. Companies do not look well on people that lie about their abilities. They need someone that can handle their job and do it well. They will probably give you some slack when you just start there but coming into the job without the required skills and talents is a job-killer.

I personally thick that lying on a resume is not worth it because what is the point of lying on your resume in the first place? The only point of lying on it, is to make yourself look good.

its not worth it like everyone has said if your cought u will be fired . when u fill out another app for jobs after do u realy wanna have to put down what u got fired for .

I would not lie on my resume, if that lie is found out and you got the job...you can get into serious trouble for it.
