'Latests Announcements' Box (I messed with one of my posts to show coding errors)

I'm guessing having the giant box on my Home Page is a new feature. I will say that I'm not particularly fond of it. I have read through the Help Section, so I'm predicting the first reply would be this URL to get me to read the final question on the FAQs page:

On to business. I noticed that sometimes it does appear on the page, but it occasionally leaves. So far, I have decided that I don't like it. We get notifications about new announcements by default, so I don't see why it needs to take up half of the Home Page. It's more of a nuisance than a beneficial box.

This isn't a 10-year-old tantrum. I'm just stating that I dislike the box. This is a feedback thread. If their are any other opinions for either side, please share.

I actually have NOT noticed the box. Then again, I'm never on the home page long, I'm there for two seconds before I go to my profile among other places. When I idle I idle on my profile, not the index.

It's more for newbies, people who aren't on the board all that often, and for people who haven't signed up yet. It shows and reminds them all that this is an active community that is consistently being updated and has competition's for it's user's. Is that the box that displays when you get your Viz for logging in? I only ever see that box when there's something it needs to say like I got my viz, then it disappears forever, so it doesn't bother me. Does it not go away for you guys or something? Or is it supposed to stick around for me?
