Ever had to change career or put yours on hold while things needed to settle?

Ever had to take a chance, to do nothing, due to depression, anxiety, break up stress?

There is no shame in any of this, sometimes for things to change, one has to hit rock bottom beofore one can move on in life.

Career changes and break up can mark the beginnings of getting in touch with ones true self and a better relationship forms as a result with yourself, family, friends and everyone around you.

Totts has bottomed out, but is now retraining, working for a good company and has a supportive partner, I am not saying I am in the clear, but working hard on 'being' rather than being a 'doing'.

I feel the same. For quite some time I was down, then I seemed to reach a false climax, but then things got better, and now I'm here. I am still confused on what I will do with my occupational direction and my situation with the ladies (or lack thereof), however, I still feel like I am just a little too hard on myself and that the answers will come in time.

I don't know am I out of my so-called low period, but I don't do all those stupid things I did back then anymore, so that is a good sign I suppose.
No way of saying how such things happen, they just do.
Something in yourself just changes and you react to it.
Other people can also push you and help you, but it has no effect when you yourself don't want to.

I did hit rock bottom once. I basically just shut down (mentally and emotionally) for a few months until all of the issues cleared up (for the most part). I'm glad I made it through that time. I mostly love my life now. I have great friends and I like pretty much everyone at my college. I'm just almost always happy now.

It's happend to a lot of people. The term "Rock bottom" often means things can't get worse and your at the brink of hell. I've been their it wasn't any fun and when this happens. You buck up shake it off and fix things, cause the longer you sulk the worse you start to feel.

I bottomed out for a few minor reasons and one major one a few years ago. I'm still working on moving on now, but the weight of the negativity that developed is still holding me back to some degree.

Yes I've bottomed out before. Probably more than once. Sorry my memory isn't the best. But how have I come out of that situation? By trying to better myself for the sake of others and myself in general. Pretty much living and learning.

Totts :
Yes I have bottomed out before or at the minimum come as close as one could get to hitting rock bottom without actually hitting rock bottom. I went through a rough period in my teen years and as a result made many mistakes. I also went through break ups and things that now looking back many years later I wish I could have a do over with. I will be the first one to admit that a lot of my problems back then stemmed from immaturity (Young and dumb) and the fact that I didn’t handle stress very well. In the years since I have tried to rebuild my life as best as I can but there is more that I need to do before I can be satisfied to a degree. I recently made the decision to go back to school and to take care of what I see as unfinished business after putting it off for years.

The way I think of what I went through back then even though a lot of it was my fault is that it was all part of the maturing process and that in many ways I would not be the person that I am today had it not been for what I have been through. This is one reason why I like offering advice to people on here especially if I can in some way help those who are younger who may be facing similar things that I faced back then in that rough period of my life.

As for as my recent decision I know it isn’t going to be easy and in fact it hasn’t been so far but I will do my best. The most important thing I feel that everyone should remember is that no matter how bad things may be, no matter what mistakes you may have made, no matter if someone tells you that you can’t do something, never give up.

Let's see.... I've been hitting low since July... my love and mother of my kid died and it was really hard to cope with the lost, even worst since I'm a single father now... How I went through that was really her father snapping me back to reality and telling me that her death affected everyone she cared and loved and we have just to move on in life, do what she thinks was is best for us (friends, family, etc.) and for Mathew (son), but during the whole depression didn't came without some health problems for myself (anger issues, heart problems, breathing difficulty, and thoughts of "deep darkness") I eventually came through, fully recovering my health and such.

Another one was my dream being ruined by my own stupid mistake. I was playing soccer, even though I was injured in my leg, and a couple of kids from our rival school came along and played with me and my friends, only to sabotage. One of the boys pushed me to the ground when the ball came toward me, and then the other came and stepped on my leg, then jumped on it. All I heard was a snap in my bones and felt total pain. Next thing I knew I was at he hospital thinking what just happened, I got a broken leg with a cracked tibia and shattered fibula. I had only to blame myself what happened and again, went under depression, less serious but still a depression. How I came out of it? My son, I realized that I might be affecting his life as my life is being altered also and probably mess his up somehow if I keep feeling sorry for myself.

Now I'm still crippled until spring (April or May) and my main objective right now is to just heal and relax a bit, go through more surgery, spend some time with the kid (rarely see him since he's with his grandparents in Topeka so I can finish my education of high school) and probably stay out of trouble

Simple.

I told myself it would get better, and it did.

It's really that simple.

And yes, I was diagnosed with "major depression." If I can do it, then anyone can. Obviously you have to put some effort into making your life better. But if you compartmentalize the issues in your life, and make things less severe, it works wonders for your personal life.

Me, I'm a "take life by the horns and don't let go" kind of guy. Yes sometimes I get knocked down and feel bad about it sometimes, but I just get back up and tackle that wild ride that is life. Life is going to give moments that are high and moments that are low. How you deal with these moments is up to you.

Every time I fall down and can't seem to get up, I need to remind myself that God will not put me through something I cannot handle.  Honestly, sometimes that's very hard to believe.  It's one of those things you simply must tell yourself and make yourself work with, even if you don't quite believe it.

Every time I turned to God and TRULY put my faith in Him, I was NEVER disappointed.

I just went back to school and felt better. I was just done being a drifter. The fact that you have responsibilites really makes you get up in the morning and also it makes your spare time really feel like you deserved it. Its no longer just "whatever, just hanging around waiting for something to happen".

Also I would like to say to anyone thinking its too late for something. It never is! Just get out and do it and you will see later that it was not that late after all. Its just in your head and if anyone tells you otherwise, they are just wrong and you have to show them otherwise. Once you acomplish one goal, you just feel amazed how easy it actually was.

Ryuzaki45 : Yeah I’ve been there on more than one occasion. Sometimes you have no other option other than to sit and wait things out. It’s frustrating and can be very trying but sometimes it’s the best thing you can do. I agree with you.
