My favorite Sci-Fi book is Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. They use a rocket launcher on a raptor in the book, it's awesome.

The Star Wars books revolving around Admiral Thrawn are great, and Harry Potter is amazing as well.
Of course I also love Lord of the Rings...
and Narnia...
I think that's it... XD.

Fantasy: Wheel of Time series, A Song of Ice & Fire series, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, the Harry Potter series, The War of the Spider Queen series, the Riftwar Saga, Sandman graphic novels, the Discworld series... I have a deep and abiding love of fantasy so I am going to stop here before I list damn near everything.

Sci-Fi: The Crystal Singer trilogy, Nemesis, and anything by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Eventually I will get around to reading the Ender books, just like one day I will read the Foundation series.

I cant help it but its also one of the few I have read that is Sci-Fi: Mass Effect series books. Fantasy = Harry Potter, LOTR, Inheritance series. Also Charlie is maybe a more younger audience book, but its well written.

I would probably have to pick Lord of the Rings. I really wish someone would continue writing history for it. The books that have been written so far have so much back story written in that you could write dozens of novels to go along with it.

I'm also a fan of the Harry Potter series. The first 2 are kind of weak but once you get to the third one it goes from being a kids book to being more young adult centered.

I need to get the Mass Effect books, I love the games but I just have not gotten around to getting the books.

Elara : I actually haven't read that yet. I want to read it though. Just need to find a copy.

I still think there is a lot of history that isn't touched on that could be several books worth. So much history gets mentioned but never fully discussed. The Appendix from Return of the King shows much of it. I would love to see someone flesh out a lot of what is in that appendix.

geeogree : You get a LOT of detail in the Simarillion, trust me. Even I have not managed to plow through it all yet. It is a great collection of all the old stories and histories that are referenced in the LotR series, but in some ways it is like reading a history textbook or the Bible.

For me i would have to say The Hobbit, it was the first book i read that was more than 100 pages long, and i thoroughly enjoyed and read it several times after, i've recently started reading the Silmarilion, it's difficult and long but it really explains things.

I have to go with Harry Potter. I've been a huge fan of it since I was eight years old. =P It's been my favorite since the moment I picked up the Sorcerer's Stone. ^__^

Although I also adore the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I've only actually ever read the first two books in the series, but they both made me laugh a lot, haha. I must read the others. >.>

My favorite fantasy book of all times was "The Wizard's First Rule", from The Sword of Truth series (the author is Terry Goodkind). I really liked the series, but how the author plunges you into this world is really "remarkable", end quote. (Sorry, I just had to!)

My favorite Sci-fi book is "Nor Crystal Tears", which is actually the only Sci-fi book I read (I think).

I really like the iRobot series, mainly because I saw the movie first.  I received the chance to read the first book in my Lit Lab class, and since then I have read the whole series.
