Whether it be accidentally killing the legend in one move, or the legend getting caught in a Pokeball, everyone has a legend failure.
For Example:
My Level 51 Walrein in Emerald going up against Groudon (Lv. 75)
Walrein uses Ice Beam!
A critical hit!
It's super-effective!
Groudon fainted.
LOL, obviously I saved before it, but it still was a FAIL.

I don't think I've ever knocked out a legendary before, but I DID spend 4 hours and 50,000 worth of various types of pokeballs trying to catch Latios before I finally got it north of Vermilion City (in SS). I also got Mewtwo to the 'Shoot! It was so close...' comment with a normal pokeball, ran out of normal pokeballs (had 20) and caught it in a great ball.

Okay this was the worst thing ever. I was playing Sapphire. You know when you go up to the tower to fight Raquaza? Well I got there and my stupid butt used my master ball on Kyogre since I didn't know Raquaza was gonna be there. So yeah, needless to say I had to reset the game a million times to catch the friggin thing.

On my Pokémon Red game, I saved right before fighting Mewtwo. After killing him 10 times I was getting bored. When he was down to half health and paralyzed I got tired of it so I started throwing Pokéballs (instead of Great Balls or Ultra Balls). One of them worked

Now I can live my life knowing I have a godly Level 100 Mewtwo that I caught at half health with a Pokéball.

I also wasted my Master Ball on Ho-Oh on my original Pokémon Gold game. I thought fighting it was the end of the game, but then I found Kanto.

I've had a few legendary fails but this one is the best fail out of all of them in my opinion. On my Pokemon Silver I tried to catch Lugia one night at 9:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and gave up. When I woke up the next morning it took me like 5 minutes to catch Lugia.
