ideas about perfection?
how do you see it? define it?
what do you think of it? or do you even believe in it?
and how about perfectionists? do they make other people's lives harder or not?

discuss.

I see perfection as, found on dictionary.com, "4) entirely without any flaws, defects or shortcomings." As human beings, we cannot reach this. We make mistakes (practically) on a daily basis. However, that's not to say that seeking perfection should be done away with.

Another definition provided on dictionary.com is, "9) expert; accomplished; proficient." This, to me, says we ought to work to do something to the best of our abilities. I consider myself to be part-perfectionist. This can be beneficial, or detrimental. If I let the perfectionist side of me get out of hand, I could end up spending too much time on one assignment, or maybe even fail to start an assignment (I'm a college student). If I do what I can to balance my perfectionism, I can accomplish my work as best as I can. It all depends on how I handle myself --and more importantly, give God the glory.

Like the above post, that is what perfection is. We as humans will never achieve perfection, because we are all flawed, and thats what makes us 'perfect' you could say.

We should do things to the best we can do them, but it will never actually be perfect, nothing is truly perfect anyways.

Perfection is the state or quality of being or becoming perfect. A quality, trait, or feature of the highest degree of excellence. The act or fact of perfecting...in other words, nobody is "perfect" except GOD himself....some strive to be perfect but can not.

Perfection is the state of achieving maximum excellence, without a single flaw in it. No one is perfect except God, period. And perfectionists, well, I don't like them that much. It really gets annoying when all they care about is being perfect.

Perfection is impossible for everyone besides God. That's it. Even perfectionists aren't perfect. It's an impossible thing to achieve. There's always gonna be kinks in anything you do.

Perfection is anything done without any errors or mistakes, and is next to impossible to accomplish in any ONE category, let alone multiple. We should try to do our best to be the best people we can be, but the truth is we're not perfect, we only want to be.

My opinion is that perfection refers to something that has no flaws. I believe this is impossible. Anything and anyone in the world can be great, but no person or thing can be perfect. There will always be a flaw somewhere. I'm not looking for the negative side. I'm just pointing out that perfection can not exist because there can always be an improvement. If it's good, make it better.

Perfectionists will always succeed and fail. They will succeed at becoming very good (as far as they're concerned) at whatever they strive to do, but they will fail at reaching perfection.

Nobody is perfect. I've been all over the world, and seen that saying ring true everywhere I've been. Can perfection be achieved? Sure, but it would take a massive evolutionary step in both body and mind. Doing so would make the human race cease to exist as we know it.

Perfection is by definition the absence of flaws. The only time I have ever seen it accurately described is perhaps in gems, i.e. a perfect diamond, however it might still be argued as subjective.

So really, perfection is a philosophical concept that cannot really exist, no matter how much Plato wanted it to.

aili : Well I don’t know if I am a perfectionist but I do take my work very seriously and I tend to worry about the quality of my work almost to the point of paranoia but, I don’t believe that is necessarily a bad thing as I feel in regard to my line of work if one takes their work seriously and takes pride in what they do then the overall scope of one’s material will be better for all concern whether it be the writer themselves , the publication or, online medium that is being provided the material from the writer or and perhaps more importantly, the reader.

I’m sure it is like that in various fields that people ply their trade but as a writer I have to draw upon what I strive to do in regard to my work which I feel best relates to this topic of conversation.

Another facet in which I try to be near perfect is in regard to my recordings. I have been recording video since I was two years old and I always try to be as close to perfect as possible in the stuff I record. I primarily record fight cards that I cover so I try to get as much footage pertaining to a particular card as possible.

Now of days with digital recording I record many DVDs and even buy my blank media in bulks of 100s at a time. It is an excellent research tool for a writer and I try my best to take full advantage of it. The good thing is I have had the benefit of a DVR for several years now so whatever I record to a disc typically comes off of a DVR thus I can avoid any mishaps in regard to recording far better then if I were using my DVD recorder as a stand alone.

Yeah, I'm a complete perfectionist--however, I've learned of it and over the years have learned to know when to move on, not easily though.
