So I've gotten sick this weekend and I now have almost totally lost my voice. I either talk in a weird gravelly voice or in a near total whisper. It's frustrating when trying to talk to a 2 year old that can't hear you clearly.

That's all really.... I'm not dying or anything. Anyone else experience this recently?

My father's friend lost his voice, but it was because of psychological reasons (too much stress and a shock was the cause). He still can only whisper, and the doctor said that he's not sure when his voice will be back (poor man).
Anyway, I'm glad that yours is because of a regular cold, because sooner or later you'll be fine

geeogree : Well it’s cold and flu season things like that happen at the drop of a hat… I have been fortunate in that other then everyday allergies I haven’t really gotten sick, sick in a couple of years but I do know what it feels like to have a full flu and that is definitely not fun.

The only thing that I can compare realistically in terms of your voice problem is I deal with dry throat on a regular basis. For me there is nothing more frustrating then trying to clear your throat and drinking anything in site (Water, Soda, Tea, and Juice) etc and you can’t get it clear. It’s really annoying at times and I use to hate days where I would do radio appearances where I’d be on the phone from anywhere from an hour to three hours for that reason. Miss doing the appearances though even if it came with a little inconvenience of having to clear my throat periodically.

my voice has started coming back.... but only after I cough and hack for a minute and get rid of some of the phlegm that is stuck in my throat. I feel much better today than I have in a while.... but the coughing is taking it's toll now. I figure I've got another 2 days before I really start to look and feel like normal again.

yeah, I'm mostly better now. My voice is still a little gravelly at times but I've most of the volume back. It's also still pretty dry a lot of the time... my voice/throat that is. I should be back to normal in a day or 2. Sucks though.... I've been sick for about a week now. I'm getting tired of it.
