Ok, here's the deal on consoles in 2011. You have three choices, the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3. If you didn't know that much, you'd either better stop reading - or really start paying attention and taking notes.

Firstly, I'm not going to talk about the Wii. I understand that there are a lot of titles and that it's really fun to play, but it just isn't a powerhouse in the graphics department. That cost is Banned/ out the list see ya wii. So sorry Nintendo.

So for the purpose of this comparison, let's talk real games, realistic driving simulators, first person shooters that actually raise your heartbeat and adrenaline as you are sneaking up on the enemy for the final kill and of course the amazing 3D world of Grand Theft Auto IV.

How do you compare them?

And I really am going to try and be fair about this comparison, so here is my background: About a year ago I succumbed and bought an Xbox 360 with a few games. I hadn't owned a console since the PS2 so I was excited getting back into games. Oh, and it had online capability. It wasn't long before I had found the third (and let me say very addictive) game in the Halo series.

This is easily the Xbox 360's flagship title. It's the reason for having the Xbox at all, the one great game that is solely available to the Microsoft fans (maybe fans is going too far). I logged many, many hours playing Halo 3 - without ever feeling like the game was getting old.

I remember looking at my stats one day, and noticing that I had played over fifty hours worth of Halo 3 online. That's pretty much the moment I realized that online games are the future. That, and I had really wasted a lot of time in my life. I could have learned a new language by now!

Xbox 360's Downfall

But there was one problem with the Xbox 360. I had to pay $7.99 every month for the privilege of playing games online. Sure, it's not a lot of money - on a bad day I will spend that much on cigarettes - but it adds up, and why should I have to pay that. I have bought a console for close to $400, every game has cost me $60. The game developers have their money, Microsoft has their money and for some reason I still have to pay to play the games I enjoy.

So I took a virtual stand against the man. I had been following the rise of the PS3 for a long time. It was, of course, one of my choices when first buying the Xbox - but it always had limited titles, and was a little too expensive.

Why to get the PS3

Until three landmark events.

1. The release of the $399 40Gb PS3
2. The release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (the preview of the best driving simulator ever made)
3. The release of Grand Theft Auto IV

Before you say it, I know GTA IV is available on all consoles, but it still adds one more great game to the PS3's ever growing list.

My Impressions So Far

There is one game that I can use to compare both consoles with (at least in terms of graphics and sound). I played Call Of Duty 4 quite a lot on both consoles, both campaign and multi-player online.

Graphics and sounds. No difference. The game play is the same. I dare anyone to spot the difference in graphics.

But there are reasons why the PS3 is the best in my eyes.

Firstly, the online game lobby's are not crawling with twelve year olds who's life mission it is to pollute the airwaves of games. This may be because the PS3 has a slightly more mature audience, possibly due to higher prices in the past - so I do expect this to change.

Secondly, the controllers on the PS3 are just way more advanced. They are lighter, which makes a difference in the long run. They have the same technology as the Wii, called SixAxis. This allows the control to control certain aspects of games by tilting, pointing downwards, etc. Not every game takes advantage but it is nice to have. The standard controller also plugs straight into the USB port of the PS3 to charge, unlike the Xbox 360 controllers that come with a standard battery pack that needs AA batteries to be replaced every few days. There is the future problem that the battery pack is not user replaceable so when it eventually does fail it will mean a new controller, but the controller functions will probably break down before this happens.

And lastly, online games are free. The Playstation network, unlike Xbox Live is free to sign up on and play. You do still have to pay for additional content, such as new maps or game add-ons, but this is becoming the normal situation across all platforms.

Xbox Live Are Thieves!

For the icing on the cake, if you need one last reason to not buy an Xbox 360, read on. I have been trying to cancel my Xbox 360 monthly subscription for two months. Microsoft does not like this and tries every way possible to stop you from doing so.

They don't allow you to do it online, either on the web or from the console. Even though this is how you enter your credit card details the first time. You have to call support, they say.

Support does not answer the phone before at least twenty minutes has passed. They then pretend that they can't find your account details, and after a little pressing even try and convince you to transfer the account to someone else. Who would I transfer it to? I asked. They huffed and told me it was canceled.

As of yesterday, I am still paying for my subscription. My only last route is to ask my credit card company to deny charges from Microsoft anymore.

Buy the PS3.

Here's the final list of reasons:

* There are three games available right now that will keep you busy for a very long time (no need to worry about the supposed lack of titles anymore). Call of Duty 4, Gran Turismo 5 and Grand Theft Auto IV.
* Blu-Ray. The war is over, Blu-Ray has won. Even if you simply bought the PS3 just for the Blu-Ray player, you are winning. It's fully functional and the picture is amazing.

* Look at the PS3, it's simply pretty.

I like the Xbox 360 better just because I have one. The xbox and ps3 are so similar in graphics, content, and there both covered with awesome sauce. The Wii is pretty fun, it's just that the games are getting old.

yea I'm not a fan of of the Xbox live fee, but I have no clue who is getting charged for my xbox live account, though I believe it could be my X. When I was living with her I think It got set up automatically through her internet or something. All I know is it keeps renewing I nor anybody I currently speak to is getting charged for it so for now that is not an issue for me.

Now for comparisons of systems, I've only played wii and ps3 a couple times as I don't own them. I've got an Xbox360 obviously and I love it. HD is the schtuff and from what I've seen and the fact that ps3's game library has grown I'd probably be just as happy with it.

Bottom line who cares as long as I'm playing current gen games in HD and having a blast which I'm sure both the 360 and ps3 could do for me.

As for the wii, I'd rather go jogging.

Sony didn't take Nintendo motion controls for the record, and I am really looking forward to buying both Playstation Move and Kinect for my systems. But I would go with PS3 because it acts as a Blu-ray player as well to everything else it does. I also like how re releases/ports like Eternal Sonata and Star Ocean got more content

Sony just has a better array of games. I know there's not as many on the PS3 as the Xbox360, but that will change. Like I have mentioned in another thread, Xbox is next to nothing over in Japan, so they just don't make games for it. Seeing that I'm not a fan of FPS or racing games, PS all the way.

That is a really biased post.

Now, I see them as equals. As I don't have a PS3, I have an Xbox and a Wii, I'll get a PS3 when I get the money, but I'm a bit low on cash right now, and am saving for a Virtual Boy.

As the Xbox has the best exclusives, as the PS3 has the best graphics. Better graphics don't make a better game.

The Xbox costs money, because there are a ton of extra features with the Gold memberships, and it helps improve XBL. The PS3 has it free, and look at what happened! Anybody can join, the means ANYBODY, so that includes hackers. Sure the Xbox got hacked, but somebody paid $60 just to hack it, so the cost is also a security feature, because I don't think some random loser in a basement would pay money to make people miserable, and they're really low when they do.

The Xbox 360 has built in WiFi, well, the slim does, and the WiFi things are getting cheap, so it almost doesn't cost extra.

The PS3 is huge, and it's hard to stack other consoles on it, but the Xbox, I can fit my NES, my Dreamcast, and my Wii on it.

Everybody goes on about the RRoD (Red Ring of Death), when the PS3 has the YLoD (Yellow Light of Death). They're the same problem, overheating, just buy an intercooler, and it will be fine.

CoDIV and GTAIV are on the Xbox, and I've played them on both, it's the same game, with the PS3 being a little more polished than the XB360 version. And with Gran Turismo 5, we have Forza Motorsport 3 for that, sure GT5 has more vehicules, but it's essentially the same game.

I haven't had lag problems with the XBox, except for when I was in a 16 person deathmatch in GTAIV and 15 of them had mics, but I've practically had the same thing happen when I was using my friend's PS3.

With your issue with the credit card, just go to the store and buy a card that only lasts 12 months, all marketers are scammers, which is why I have had issues with Sony and my PSP's warrenty. I called them in September 2010, and it's May 2011, and I still didn't get a shipping label yet! If Microsoft had a Xbox Portable, I'd have the same problem.

I know you said not to talk about the Wii, but the games are fun, their service is great to deal with. I'm not saying it's the best, because I hate motion gaming, but it's an option.
That is a really biased post.

Aj7yk : that was a very good review, iv played halo though and i imediately thought *OVERRATED,OVERRATED,OVERRATED*
did not like it.
Two additional points, the ps3 only costs a tiny bitmore than a blue ray dvd player, so its really just common snese to get the ps3, for a few extra bucks you can play games and surf the net, as well as playing your dvds.
the 2nd point is mgs4, the graphics are so good, the game is so long, there are so many different guns, the characters are so detailed, and it has hours of video footage, and its on one disk, it would be on at least 3 for xbox.

alexanyways : its hard to be biased considering he had xbox first...
As for better exclusives thats really not true, there are barely any xbox exclusives now, the only really popular ones are left for dead, gears of war and halo.Left for dead=pretty good, halo=i prefered haze(ps3 exclusive), gears of war=i havent played.oh and a tom clancy one, i forget the name, it was like rainbow six vegas, i really wanted that, so in my opinon(and in the opinion of most of my friends, only two pretty good exclusives)
there arent really that many extra features, you have cross chat and windows live.Cross chat is being introduced to ps3 soon and windows live, no one uses anymore.
Are you seriously trying to claim the reason ps3 got hacked was its free to join?that makes no sense, the ps3 is easier to hack because it actualy has the internet, it wont be hacked again though after all the security they put in.Xbox is made my microsoft, microsoft email accounts have been hacked so many times and there internet exoplorer let hackers steal millions of peoples data, so its really no different.
i think that if i were a hacker, i wouldnt be thinking "ah, $60, i cant afford that, il go somewhere else."
the slim ps3 is not huge and thats pretty much the only model they make now, not that i care because i never take it anywhere anyway.
the YLOD is far(emphasises on the far)less common than the RROD.
also youre not meant to stack consoles on each other, that just increases the chance of something breaking or it overheating.
looking at comparrisons, i found gt5 graphis and the way the cars reacted and crashed etc to be a lot more realistic(really, i compared them, theres screenshots taken of similar cars and the gt5 ones were better i think)
my friend had the exact same problem with cancelling xbox subscription too.
You can pay for ps plus on the playstation, (but unlike xbox its optional)and that gets you extra features, free games, game discounts, game betas etc so more for your money.
Additionaly on ps3 they give you free apps like picture viewing ones, and selected free movies etc.
well thats all your points i saw adressed.
