My understanding is that a stoner is a more intellectual smoker. More relaxed and into just smoking with a small group of friends. Whereas a pothead is usually just a person who fiends for weed usually smokes alone to get highest and is usually pretty dumb.

Good question. I think a stoner is an older person who has been smoking for a long period of time. Where as a pothead is usually someone younger who (like you said) fiends to be high constantly and absolutely HAS to have it.
