I've heard a lot of good things about the series. I played Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube and returned it as fast as I could because the story was so redundant.

I was wondering if there is a better game in the series to start with. Keep two things in mind:

1. I'm not looking for the best game in the series. I want to know which game I should start with. If you're thinking of two or three different ones, say so.
2. I only have Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Wii systems, along with the RGR, so I can't play the new one that everyone loves.

I was thinking of putting this in the Video Game forum, but I decided it would fit better in here.

BNuge : You should get the Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy IV (4). It's the best one you can get on a Nintendo system in my opinion, and one of the best ones overall. I think it's about number nine on my unofficial list of the greatest games ever--not on site, don't bother looking for it. Anyway, if you don't like 4, then Final Fantasy is probably not for you. FF XII is different from the others if you don't like 4, but it's on the PS 2, so it would be tough for you to get a chance to play. They made an earlier remake of 4 on the GBA if you don't want to by a DS game, or if you don't have a DS. (The double remakes show just exactly how popular it was, so that's your proof that I'm not kidding. I'd get the DS version over the GBA version though, because they did a good job on converting the graphics to a modern 3D style.)

WarpStarFerret : I should have added that I don't have handheld systems. I might check out the GBA FF4 if it's in the RGR.

I believe you can buy Final Fantasy IV and its sequel, The After Years, from the Nintendo Channel on the Wii. Not sure how much either of them cost, though.

I just started playing FF VI Advance in the RGR, and I think it's even better than IV. You should try it. It's hilarious.

WarpStarFerret : I made it up to some kind of desert after getting kicked out of the castle and I keep dying. My urge to play FF IV is gone.

BNuge : sorry to break it to you but there are no good final fantasy games ane the systems you own. lol the best games are on ps one. ff 7 ff8 ff9 are very good traditional rpgs with good stories, intresting characters and good battle systems. my favorite is ff 7 because Cloud is cool and barret is pretty gangsta, he has a gun for a hand. the limit breaks system is awesome, i reccommend that game but you probly wont be able to find it. if you have a psp final fantasy tactics is also a good game. its a tactical rpg so idk if your into that.

BNuge : There's a town right in the middle of that desert that you're supposed to go to in order to advance the story, and yes that is the first difficulty spike. You're supposed to level crunch after going to the town first until Rydia-the little girl-learns Raise.

Keep in mind that most Final Fantasy games are semi-real time, meaning that anytime you are not actively selecting an action is a time that your enemies might attack you.

Also, even if you don't make it very far into Final Fantasy VI (6) Advance (This is a different game) the gags are so hilarious it's worth it. Go ahead and try 6, even if it's only for the jokes.

og_kurupt :

Out of curiosity, why did you post this here? This isn't a thread for random FF questions. You should read the title and the first post for every thread before you post something so that you know what the thread is about.

You can make a thread of your own to ask about this if you want. I would suggest putting it in the Video Game Franchises Forum.

I'd tell you to start with FF7, FF9, or FF10 but you don't have a PS2 so you can't. The very first one I played was FF9 and I thought that was a pretty good one to start with.

BNuge - would you like me to close this thread?

I'd recommend VI. It was released as III on the snes in america so it's playable in the RGR.
