JigSaw: Here in New York it is 100$ plus (depending on where you purchase from) .... 20 cigarettes in one pack which costs $10.00. Thats ridiculous...to spend that amount of money only to slowly kill yourself...that's why I get my mailed to me from friends and family in other states like Florida and Georgia. Where a carton is only 25 bucks.

Perhaps instead of increasing the monetary price of cigarettes, they add a condition instead. Each cigarette will cost you one day of your life. People would rather spend money than time (remember this). I'm not sure how this would work, but, it would definitely make me stop (if I were a smoker) if it were somehow executed.

septembern is right. If they raise the price on cigarettes so high that only rich people can buy them, the poor people will turn to other forms of smoking like cigars and marijuana. Plus people will just steal the cigarettes if the price is raised too high. Raising the prices on cigarettes is a good way to increase the crime rate.

Well as a smoker..I know if cigarettes costs over 10 dollars, I refuse to buy them. That wouldn't make me quit smoking completely...but it would lessen the amount of cigarettes I smoke greatly.
