I've wanted to make this thread for a while but never got around to it. I'm about to hit a milestone for the second time in my life- having 10k in the bank. Not much compared to all the rich people out there, but for being my rank in the army it's pretty decent. The first time I've had over $10,000 saved was back in 2007. I accumulated that much because I was at Ft. McCoy in WI (living in a hotel, paid for by the Army) and aside from my base pay and BAH (money for being away from home while mobilized), everybody was raking in an extra $900 a month for food and misc. expenses (Per Diem). I was getting around $3200 a month. And back then, the only thing I really ever did after was hop the PS3 to play Resistance: FoM online. literally 5 hours a day, everyday. So I never went out and spent money on anything except groceries and the occasional alcohol and movies.

I don't remember much of what happened with it, but a lot of it went toward paying off my car.

What's the most you guys have saved up? I'm not talking about stocks, bonds or IRA's, just straight bank savings.

I think the most money I have ever had in the bank at the same time was 20,000$ but then that quickly went into paying off credit card bills and things like that. Easy come, easy go I guess.

Between my wife and I, the most we've ever had in our savings account is like $2000 and that money didn't last long, currently only have a few hundred

$10,000 is a lot though, a big milestone. It's always great to see people capable of saving up their money and being wise with it. My wife and I would have a lot more saved up if it weren't for having a kid (but no regrets of course).

Our current goal is to save up $25,000 because that's when we'll look into getting out own house but we want a lot saved up first, 5% down payment and than $12,500 as a backup (never know what can happen, better to be as safe as possible, especially when it comes to getting a house).
