Call of duty are also some very good games for shooter. Retro I use to play a lot of lethal weapon and Robocop.

In the RGR, I'd suggest Chrono Trigger or Paper Mario for RPGs, and Perfect Dark or Goldeneye 007 for shooter. IRL, I'd say go with Halo or Call of Duty shooters (although CoD 3 isn't good compared to the rest... avoid that one) or FF or Mario & Luigi RPGs.

And for all around awesomeness, the Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart games can't be beat .

Tales of Phantasia is quite good (on the GCN). Online, you can't go wrong with Final Fantasy I - VI (IV and VI are especially awesome), Chrono Trigger, or any of the Pokemon games available.

Earthbound for RPG. I love that game, it's my favorite game ever actually. Any LoZ game would be great for RPGs too. A good game if you like crudeness would definitely be Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64. Also another good RPG is Chrono Trigger.
