OK, so my mom told me I was getting a Netbook for Christmas. Yay me. It's similar to a laptop I know, but what are the differences? All I really want to do is go on the Internet and download stuff, but can I do that on a Netbook? (the one I'm getting I think I can, but I want to know what else I can do on it).

I believe that a Netbook is mainly for things that are work related, such as Microsoft Office, etc. It's basically a lower version of a laptop. If you know a good bit about programming, or can get some help, then you might be able to get it to run as well as a laptop. I don't know if you'll be able to use stuff such as the RGR or not. It will probably take a while to get used to.

The Netbook is indeed a mini laptop.

The Netbook is basically a laptop except:

*it is smaller
*can't play CD's
*can only connect via high-speed (so no Dial-up)
*has a weaker processor
*is cheaper

Other then that, exactly the same. You should be able to handle everything you can do on your computer now, minus CD-based computer games.

Ah yes, the lack of a CD drive turned me off to it. Portability is nice, but I'd prefer desktops.

jmc1097 Well I'm sure you can get a USB CD drive.

Netbooks are designed to:

Type stuff up
Surf the net
Email
Play music
General low resources computer processes

The biggest difference is power, generally a laptop will be able to run circles around a netbook. Don't plan on playing any CD/ Steam based games (though some pretty old stuff may run). RGR should work as your browser should support flash. The graphics card will most likely be minimal.

I don't think of it as an everyday computer though, it really feels like a computer that would be useful to students and for work. Dell, Newegg, etc has some great deals on laptops, you're Mom may want to check into them as she could get you a much better machine for a bit more. Obviously if that's not an option there's no point, just trying to help you guys get the best bang for your buck.
