It's been awhile since Capcom announced that UK developer Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) has been given the task of reviving Devil May Cry franchise.

The new game, simply entitled DmC, once again puts you in the shoes of our old fellow Dante, as he shoots and slices his way through hordes of demons. Ninja Theory promises new weapons and gameplay experiences and, according to Capcom, DmC will be neither a sequel or a prequel, but a franchise reboot. And here lies the "problem"

Dante is not the old fellow Dante, but a entire new Dante, not recognizable. Obviously, new Dante was largely criticized and, obviously, Ninja Theory has responded. "The essence of Devil May Cry is all about 'cool,'" says creative director Tameem Antoniades. "It's about Dante being cool and making you feel cool when you're playing it, and so the combat and the style system and everything is integral to that. But, you know, what was cool 12 years ago -- I think that was when the first game came out -- isn't cool anymore."

So, here's my question for you: old Dante or new Dante?



As for me, I DO prefer old good looking Dante. The new dude looks like an emo girl and, in my opinion, Ninja Theory completely destroyed the main character and this isn't Dante anymore. He looks like some dirty emo London punk. Or the leader sing for some bad emo band. Or, maybe, a sun-shining Twilight Saga vampire, but he definitely does not look like a vampire hunter for me. And, did he coloured his hair? Because he's back haired now... Besides, since I'm an old games fan writing in a old games Ode forum I simply cannot agree with Ninja Theory when it comes to be cool

The mature Dante looks alot better but at least they are putting out fresh new ideas makes me wonder if Vergil looks the same as Dante when they were young.

I really like the new Dante. He just looks so cool and goth. The old one was cool too but I like the new one a bit more.

I like the old Dante. He can eat pizza but he can also go ahead and kill EVERYTHING! The new Dante is just Jack Skellington before he died.

I prefer the old look of Dante (especially in Devil May Cry 4) to the new look, but the more I see the new look the more it grows on me.

I agreed with flambeau when I first saw him, but I'm willing to give the new Dante a chance as long as it means we are getting more Devil May Cry games haha, I love the series.

ExiledPariah : I also love the series. If DmC gets a lot of good reviews I'll try it for sure. But even if it were a good game I still prefer I was playing with the cool-all-the-way old Dante

I loved playing devil may cry 4 and I loved Dante's outfit! The new Dante look kinda creeps me out. I prefer the old Dante waaaaaay more than the new Dante, but I'm willing to give the new Dante a chance.

I'll also wait and see if the new Devil May Cry gets good reviews before I buy it.. I need to start doing that more often, I've bought too many games without seeing what kind of review they received haha..

Yeah, every time I look at new Dante I think "what the h**l was Ninja Theory thinking?"

I prefer the original Dante because although some people might think he looked emo, his personality said otherwise running around being awesome and beating the living hell out of countless demons, while wise-cracking, eating pizza, and getting impaled the whole time. I read on wikipedia that Hideki Kamiya's goal when making Dante was basically to create a protagonist whom you'd want to have as a drinking buddy, and they succeeded. In spite of my preference to old Dante, I will give new Dante a chance so long as it doesn't alter the continuity and allows old Dante's looks in the previous games to remain canon.

I like them both equally. While the old Dante looks awesome, there's something about the new Dante that gives off a badass feel to it.
