For those who are not aware, Conan O’Brien will be making his return to Television tonight with the Debut of his new Late night talk show on TBS. I have been a longtime O’Brien supporter going back to the mid-90s when he took over from David Letterman’s old Late Night show on NBC.

I am very curious to see what potential backlash NBC will now face now that O’Brien is going to be back on the air following their fallout earlier this year.

Without being too biased I will say that I feel O’Brien was the victim of injustice and feel that he should still be hosting The Tonight Show…

I was curious as to what fellow Vizzed members think about this and will you be watching?

billythekidmonster : From my PS3: I know what you mean I'm fortunate to have an HD DVR so I was prepared ahead of time. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet either. I have no doubt that he will be an impact again he does have a loyal following that followed him in mass when NBC pulled their nonsense with him.

The only thing that somewhat concerns me is whether TBS will now be considered a third leading network in regard to late night television. I feel that because TBS is considered basic cable if it will be held in the same light as the broadcast giants CBS and NBC. I hold nothing back when I say I want NBC to be held accountable for their stunt with O'Brien.

I had always liked Jay Leno but when he went back on his word that he would not do what he eventually did it lowered my opinion of him. I realize that the corporate brass at NBC are most likely the true culprits here but Leno having previously said that he would not do to O'Brien what NBC did to David Letterman, I feel could have put an end to whatever game NBC wanted to play by simply refusing to be part of it and thus remaining true to his word.

I will admit I am extremely hard-nosed at times and am old school but I feel that there are more important things in life than money and the value of a person's word is far more important. To me, the ability to look myself in the mirror after giving my word to someone is more valuable than any dollar amount a corporate machine may want to put in my pocket.

For Leno's sake I hope he can look himself in the mirror, I know if I were him, I wouldn't be able to...

gameface138 : From what I know it is on Monday thru Thursday at 11PM on TBS. I don’t know why it isn’t on five nights a week and can only assume that it is just so he can be worked in then they’ll add Friday to the schedule.

I actually got a chance to watch the first episode this morning via my DVR and I have to say I was very impressed. It looked as if nothing had happened in regard to the presentation of the show and the only thing that was missing was “The Tonight Show” Title. The set looked very similar to O’Brien’s “Tonight Show” set and the presentation was very “Tonight Show” like.

The one thing that I don’t understand about it is why they don’t put O’Brien directly head to head with Jay Leno at 11:35. I personally feel that with them directly head to head for a full hour rather than just a half hour from 11:30 to Midnight.

I believe strongly that it would go a long way in proving the point of how badly NBC did O’Brien wrong by putting them in direct head to head competition. Conan’s numbers were strong for his re-launch so I am hopeful for my prediction of true accountability for Leno and NBC to come to fruition.

As I said before I am a longtime O’Brien follower going back to his beginning as a talk show host at NBC so I freely admit I am firmly in his corner and a member of “Team Coco “so to speak. I also as I said feel that O’Brien was the victim of unnecessary blatant injustice so I naturally want to see those culprits held accountable for their actions.

MegaRevolution1 : Well technically Leno’s primetime show was cancelled but NBC tried to pull a scam by putting Leno back in his late night slot for a half hour and having Conan move to 12:05. This was O’Brien’s point of contention that it doesn’t make sense to do “The Tonight Show” if it starts after midnight.

My problem as I said with Leno is that he didn’t keep his word and to me at least that is the one thing a person should do no matter how much money is thrown at them is keep their word once they give it. I realize that I am the minority for the most part by feeling that morals should override money in a world full of greed but that’s how I was raised and in regard to this I feel Leno is just as guilty as the corporate snakes at NBC in this situation.

The bottom line is Leno had the power to put any games that corporate wanted to play on O’Brien to rest by simply saying “No, I’m keeping my word”. Since Leno didn’t do that I feel no sympathy for him.

I’ve been enjoying the show so far but I would love it if O’Brien brought back some of the old bits he use to do. My personal favorite was “In the year 2000” though it was slightly updated when he started on “The Tonight show”.

pacman1755 : You have to have seen what O'Brien and company did for years in the late night slot that followed The Tonight Show. I know some people feel reluctant to hold Jay Leno accountable for his actions but in my opinion although I liked Leno prior to this NBC fiasco O'Brien's show was at times much more entertaining then Leno's because Leno tended to be more conservative with his material.

I haven't had a chance lately to keep up with Conan but I am hoping that eventually he'll bring back a new version of his "In the year 2000" bit which was by far my favorite of all his bits. For those who have not seen "In the year 2000" I encourage you to go on YouTube and search. You will likely find one he did with Jim Carrey years ago on his old "Late Night" show. It was hysterical...

dkmec20 : He's very good... He was a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons prior to his transition as a late night talk show host in the early 90s. As I said YouTube is a great resource for those whom have never been exposed to him prior to his move to TBS.

I like Jimmy Fallon's incarnation of "Late Night" but I feel that he still has big shoes to fill. Before taking over "The Tonight Show" O'Brien hosted "Late Night" for 16 years so O'Brien was able to build a loyal fan base which followed him when NBC pulled their nonsense.

I kind of feel bad because for years I've wanted to go see O'Brien's show live when I get back to New York but, when he moved to "The Tonight Show" they moved him to Los Angeles. I have nothing against L.A. but I do wonder what might have happened if O'Brien stayed in New York for his version of "The Tonight Show".

I guess it is one of those unwritten and unspoken rules of NBC that "Tonight" has to be an L.A. property. Few people know that when Johnny Carson first started his run on "Tonight" in 1962 that it originated in New York.

At least New York still has David Letterman... Maybe I'll make it back up north to see him live before he retires...

dkmec20 : As I said I think he will do exceptionally well... I feel that he is being underestimated to a degree by the brass at NBC or should I say the former brass at NBC Pre-Comcast taking over.

I really feel that there is this kind of corporate mentality that some in positions of power at major networks feel that because of their position that their somehow immune to any form of backlash from the public.

O'Brien worked for NBC for over 20 years and the way he was treated really rubbed people the wrong way in terms of public relations for the network and, if you compare O'Brien's list of guests since his move to TBS with Jay Leno's "Tonight show" it's pretty much neck and neck but, O'Brien has perhaps more supporters from those A-list celebrities now so an argument can be made that he has an edge.

I would really like to see him go head to head with Leno at 11:35 five nights a week. As I said I feel it would go a long way toward proving a point to those whom are no longer in control at NBC of what degree they were wrong.

Part of me wishes now that Comcast owns NBC that they would be open to soothing things over with O'Brien to reclaim his rightful place on "The Tonight Show". I can also see TBS' reasoning for keeping O'Brien on a four night a week schedule. I think that their reasoning may have to do with the fact that Friday nights are typically a movie/date night for a lot of people and, that may very well be a strategy on their part to maximize their potential for ratings and revenue from advertising and such.

In regard to a potential return one day to "The Tonight Show" for O'Brien. I would love to see it because I as I've said have been a longtime supporter of O'Brien but I imagine that Leno probably got himself rooted in deep with a contract that will be difficult for NBC to break regardless of ratings.
