No I'm not. I was making sure you didn't mean at IGN. I think you have to have a Nintendo Power Subscrioption to be an Insider at Nintendo.com don't you? I haven't had one in years.

I'll be trying to think of where else we can try to "advertise".

No, you don't need to be a subscriber. You need to own a Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS or any of their games and know the serial number/key for it. That's it. Right now if you register three products (like those above) you get three issues trial of Nintendo Power for free. I'm not sure what it normally costs, but Insiders get it for $12 a year. It's probably the same price regardless, but free s*** is free s***.

We've got time to think of places to advertise. No rush. While there shouldn't be anything such as "bad publicity," we should run all our ideas past the group to avoid any incidents or complications.

First of all, I can't believe nobody informed me about this until now.

Second of all... *climbs walls and dances on the ceiling*

Third of all...let me back in the loop, pleasepleaseplease!!! I can help Apoc with his jobs, and I'm also an N-Sider. I obviously wanna help out now that the site is ready to go, so please give me something to do!

Apoc, if you haven't done so yet, I can send out PMs to all the art people at CTRP. Has ZeaLitY been informed of this? Perhaps he'll change his mind about supporting the petition once he sees the finished site. A front-page mention on the Compendium will do us so much more good (and will get us so many more signatures by interested parties) than any forum could.

Jake, the song "Predetermination" sounds utterly awesome on the site. Wise choice. But don't you think we could just use the Chrono Symphonic version of "To Far Away Times"? Think of the vocals, man! Think of the popularity it would garner! The song sounds absolutely beautiful and would combine your ideas on "revisited, remixed, etc." with Apoc's ideas on the symbolism of using the end theme song! It's perfect!

Furthermore, if we could sync the official launch of the petition with that of Chrono Symphonic, we'd be able to gain more signatures thanks to the immense popularity the album will have. (Yes, it will be popular. Count on it.)

I feel euphoric. It's finally happened...!

EDIT: Just got an e-mail from Nathan.

Good evening gentleman,

The code is uploaded and I leave the CT petition site in your hands now. There are a few places still needing content but you will be able to add it in yourself by altering the CT_MAIN.HTML file (it will be good practice in editing this “mostly” dynamic site. It holds all the dynamic content. The images are dynamic as well. Please see the CT_MEASURE.TXT for image sizing. Please do not exceed the noted pixels or the site will look bad. The images must keep the same name, simply overwrite the one you want to update. EMAIL.PHP holds an email address where the dynamic submit button sends. If you need to edit it please be careful.

Thank you,
Nathan Levine

I don't know much about code, unfortunately. Apoc, can you figure this out?

DOUBLE EDIT: I just looked through the rest of the site (for a while I was stuck on the front page, doing nothing but listening to the music).

I'm crying right now, I'm so happy.

Jake, about the petitions: are you sure only using one of them is such a good idea? I mean, the images of the characters are smaller on the All-In-One than they are on the others, so you can't make out very many details. Besides, we've worked hard on the other petitions, and I just don't wanna let them go to waste.

TRIPLE EDIT: New Idea. In the Downloads section, we should put up sigs and wallpapers for advertising the Petition -- like BrownMan's sig that we're using as the petition's title. That way, forumers everywhere can do our PR work for us by using the sigs and advertising in various forums, and they can show their support by using the desktop images.

(Plus, I'd like to use one. )

BrownMan already has created two sigs, so we should use them until more come along.

Jake, I'm gonna go post about the petition in the official thread for Chrono Symphonic, in the OCR forums. Is that okay?

That looks more like 6 edits, not 3!

Yeah, you were informed like 3 days ago when Nathan sent me the email! I just was waiting for you to PM me or email me or something, LOL...

About tasks... Let me figure out what else needs to be done at the moment, ok?

To my knowledge, ZeaLitY doesn't know of the recent developments. Wouldn't hurt if you wanna talk to him though...

I figured people would like "Predetermination" on the music... It fits the dynamic of the site. And actually, I did talk with some people about using the Symphonic version of To Far-Away Times, and the only objection I consistently got was that it's just too slow for a site that's supposed to get you excited about a Chrono Trigger remake. So I opted for "Predetermination" instead.

About the launch synch-up: I LOVE the idea. I'm all for double-whammies. When is Symphonic's launch? Nate has made some major changes and grammar corrections; now I just need to get him to take care of that one non-dynamic field in About, finish up the Submission bug, and change "Privacy Policy" to "Legal." This also means all wallpapers and sigs need to be in by that time.

You feel euphoric? It's finally happened? Geez, you don't sound like the site's finished... You sound like the petition's been submitted and approved already! (Oh, how I look forward to your post on that blessed day...)

On the petitions: I think if we're going to self-impose a deadline to launch with Symphonic, then doing only one is definitely the way to go. The finer details of the images are not needed, and the images are only a bonus anyway. To be honest, I think we'll already take a little flak from viewers for using images anyway, since it'll increase the download time...especially with so many images in one file! I know it's hard to drop the other ones we've worked very hard on, but sometimes a sacrifice does need to be made in order to make up for the speed we lost earlier on during the waiting-on-website stage. Know what I mean?

About the wallpapers/sigs...actually that's not a new idea. That's EXACTLY what the wallpapers and sigs are for... To have our logo on them and to be just a brief blip to advertise us.

Actually, I think I might take care of one of those 3 wallpapers. Got a pretty decent idea for it... Hmm...

Rockman (Stoney), you can post about the petition anywhere you want. I'd advise you not to give out that site to EVERYONE just yet though... Not 'til it's 100% done and I say go. It's a safe bet that most of Symphonic's people don't know about this, although you can bet your britches that Claado Shou does. I need to go right now, but I'll try and let him know later that this site is up.

Wha? Sure, I can understand how the beginning part of that section of the song was all nice and exciting, but it REALLY slows down a LOT at the end. If pure adrenaline-driven excitement is what you're after, I don't think that song will work.

Besides, "To Far Away Times" worked perfectly with the site. You oughta at least give the Symphonic TFAT a try and let us see if it's any better. That's why we're still in the site's testing phase; to test stuff out!

I thought that YOU'D know, since you obviously have closer relations to Claado Shou than I do.

He said in the Chrono Symphonic thread that he'd give everyone there a heads-up a few days before the release, after the music has been mastered and submitted to him. You should ask him to do the same for you, possibly a few days before he alerts everyone else, so we can have more time to get last-minute submissions in and finalize everything.

My guess is, we'll finish our preparations long before Chrono Symphonic does, allowing us plenty of time to focus on little more than wallpaper/sig submissions, and planning the advertising stuff out like we're doing now.

The Magus fans will hate you if you don't let them download his petition.

Long downloading times are no reason to abolish the other versions altogether. Not all of those visiting the site will be confined to dial-up; a lot of them will have DSL or Cable instead. Besides, it's completely up to the visitor to decide which version to choose. Just put a little warning for dial-up users on the Downloads page. Then if they get upset, it will be their fault for not heeding the warning.

As for problems with non-dynamic parts of that page...why don't we make the other petitions available somewhere else, like on CTRP or the Compendium? It's not as preferable as them being on the Petition's site, but at least people will still be able to access them that way. You could even put a little note on the Downloads page saying "go here for individual character versions of the petition", and follow it up with a link. This would also help increase traffic to wherever we link to, which is great if they need it.

WHOA! Epiphany! Host the other petition files on the Vizzed Board somewhere, like in a new thread here in the Remake Petition forum! Then, link to the thread from the Petition's site! After all, the board needs all the traffic it can get!

I'm Rockman now? LOL. Maybe I should change my avi from Kirby to Mega Man.

If you give me Shou's email, I can inform him of the update myself and save you the time and trouble. It would be a massive honor for me to tell him about this (he's become one of my idols now). But if you don't want to, I understand -- his address isn't located anywhere on OCR or the Chrono Symphonic site, so he obviously doesn't want it given out to just everyone.

EDIT: Something I just noticed. In his e-mail, Nathan states that the site's images are dynamic, too. Wouldn't this mean that we can change the thumbnails for the sigs/wallpapers so that every submission doesn't need to include those images?

Rockman (Stoney), you can post about the petition anywhere you want. I'd advise you not to give out that site to EVERYONE just yet though... Not 'til it's 100% done and I say go. It's a safe bet that most of Symphonic's people don't know about this, although you can bet your britches that Claado Shou does. I need to go right now, but I'll try and let him know later that this site is up.

Besides, "To Far Away Times" worked perfectly with the site. You oughta at least give the Symphonic TFAT a try and let us see if it's any better. That's why we're still in the site's testing phase; to test stuff out!

That would require more time from Nate. Except for the absolutely necessary stuff, I don't want to bring more stuff to his plate when he's already done as far as he's concerned. If you want to try the site with To Far-Away Times, click that speaker icon in the top right corner of the site to mute the music. (The sound effects will still play.) Then just fire up an MP3 of the song while you browse, and try it out that way. I think Predetermination is the way to go though.

I haven't talked to him in a couple months, and the last time I did, I tried to get a date out of him and he just said it'd be released when he's done with it. So I think even he doesn't know the release date. Anyway, yes, feel free to email him (I'll PM his email to you as well) and let him know about the progress lately. Also just let him know we'd really like to know as soon as he determines a release date, or if he even has a ballpark guess right now.

First, I think that could cost us some signatures from dial-up users if it takes too long. They would likely cancel the download and move on in their web-surfing. We're less likely to lose signatures by using a single petition with all images on it, than if we have someone downloading all those different ones together. Second, the entire Downloads page is NON-dynamic. I can't "put a little warning for dial-up users on the Downloads page." Sorry.

As for problems with non-dynamic parts of that page...why don't we make the other petitions available somewhere else, like on CTRP or the Compendium? It's not as preferable as them being on the Petition's site, but at least people will still be able to access them that way.

Now that would work...

You could even put a little note on the Downloads page saying "go here for individual character versions of the petition", and follow it up with a link.

...But that wouldn't. Again, non-dynamic. So I can't put a little note in there. Unfortunately that also nixes your epiphany. HOWEVER, in the News section, we could temporarily have a blip in there (since it is dynamic) saying that alternate versions of the petition are available, and hopefully put a link. (I say "hopefully" because I don't know if that dynamic text will support a hyperlink... I really doubt it.)

Unfortunately, every image is dynamic EXCEPT those icons. So we're back to using those images. (Just remember, NOTHING on the Downloads page is dynamic except the files that are linked to.)

2ND EDIT: Meh, I can't find Zeality's and Claado Shou's email addresses. Stoney, you'll just have to PM them at Compendium. They'll write back.

OK, I'll talk to him about it. No guarantees though... If anything what we'll probably do is have it on there in the top-right corner as a 2nd music choice. Cool with y'all?

EDIT: Oh, and that wallpaper is ready. Click on the link for the first wallpaper image on the site to download. Let me know what ya think.

Having a selection of music to choose from would actually be better than anything else. Then everybody would get what they want. Go for it!

BTW Jake, I did what you suggested to test out Symphonic's TFAT on the site, and it is a fabulous combo.

Here's a suggestion for the Downloads page; you say that the links are dynamic, correct? So instead of linking directly to the files, make each link take you to a page that offers you links to all the versions of the petition, all in the format you've chosen. And on these "collection" pages, you can put warnings for dial-up users and such.

For example, clicking on the "HTML Version" link in Downloads can take you to a new thread in the Petition's forums that includes HTML versions of each petition, and the Dial-Up Warning.

Glarg, I'm not a member of the Compendium...I guess this is as good a time as any to join, though.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention. On the "About CT : P" page, you might wanna take out that horribly squished image of Arc Impulse (just above the address) and replace it with the logo that's on the petitions. Just a thought.

Say...will me, Prop, and Apoc get mentioned in the "Who We Are" box on that page? If you need my real name for that, I can PM it to you. You should definitely mention Prop at least, since he wrote the petition...and you might wanna put Davideo7 up there, since he's the one who's hosting the site, not this mysterious "Name" character.

Let's see, what else? Ah yes, my contact information. I can PM that to you as well if you want.

Your idea on the News page about reporting on the areas with the most signatures accumulated is an interesting idea, but how will we keep track of all the necessary information for such a feat?

In the "Square-Enix Offers Support" text, it sounds like you're exclusively addressing Chrono Trigger's American audience. Remember that since this is a website, it will be seen by people all over the world. Europeans who look at the title alone will assume you're referring to Square-Enix of Europe, not America.

Also note the unlikely, but still possible idea of Europeans and other foreigners printing out the petition, signing it, and mailing it to you regardless of shipping costs. It would be wise not to exclude them -- we could increase our signatures exponentially by keeping the rest of the globe in our plan.

It's too bad the Downloads page is non-dynamic...I was batting around the idea of perhaps having other versions of the site, in other languages besides English. Spanish would be the most likely candidate, since so many Hispanics live close to your Texan address. (Also, how well do you think a Japanese version of the site would do in Japan? )

Actually no. Already thought of that. The links are not dynamic. What I meant was that the files themselves obviously are. That means those links will always link to w1.zip, but of course I can always upload a new w1.zip (and in fact did earlier for y'all to check out) with whatever we want in it. This applies also to every other link on the site. Only the text fields are dynamic along with MOST of the images. (Hence Nate's reference about us enjoying this "mostly" dynamic website.) Nothing else.

About the "name" part on Dave, I mentioned previously that that field is not dynamic, and I will be having Nate correct that so that Dave's name shows up.

Also, the "Who We Are" box only has space for 3 people (those are 3 different text fields, not 1), so other people will be mentioned in Contacts. Yes, and actually, I do need your real name... And Apocalypse, I need yours too. (Or do I have it already???)

Easy. I'll be receiving these completed petitions at my PO Box. All I do is check to see where they're from. If they didn't put a return address, there's still always a postmark.

This was already done before you posted. Refresh your page; it now says "Square-Enix USA" or something like that.

I'd say I agree on that, but it's just beyond our capability right now. Everything would have to be very well-translated, ya know? And we don't have someone who has strong verbal skills in Japanese. As for Spanish and others, I think that might be biting off more than we can chew. A petition & site available in Spanish also implies a game release in Spanish, which is more money out of Square's pocket. This could be an obstacle to our success. While it's unlikely that Square would ever know that the petition was released in multiple languages, there's a good chance they would figure it out if they see signatures from Mexico and France and so on. (True, there are people who speak English there, but Square would know better.)

Two items:

1. Chrono Trigger is in English. Anyone able to play the game and understand it well enough to sign the petition honestly should have no trouble understanding the site and petition.

2. I think it's unrealistic to assume Square won't know about our progress and actions, especially as publicity of the petition spreads. All they need to do is check one site that has a mention of the petition on it and they'll know what to look for.

Valid points, but what are you getting at? That there's no need to create multiple-language versions of the petition? If so, I agree.

I was getting at two things. The first was, as you guessed, that leaving the petition in English is fine. The second is that we should not assume that we are beyond the eyes of Square, and should conduct ourselves accordingly.

...and once again, Prop's logic pwns everybody.

Well Jake, if we have no choice but to put all the versions of the petition in one file per format, then that's what we should do. After all, anyone who is patient enough to wait for the site to load (I'm a 56K user, and it took a while) will also be patient enough to let the file download.

Just got a PM from ZeaLitY. He says he supports the petition as a Chrono Trigger Project. He also recommends that we darken the text on the site's home page so it can be read more easily.

Wow, that's a change of stance from ZeaLitY's standpoint. And yes, thanks for the reminder... I'll ask Nate to darken it a bit.

And yes, I agree with Prop. I was initially saying that whether Square notices that the site would be in multiple languages or not, that they'd eventually figure it out. So yes, I am keenly aware that Square's eyes are on us. We should feel so lucky...

Good plan on the darkening the text. Glad to see that he finally came around. Don't let him flood the site too much yet though.
