It's cool, Stoney.

Padmé is going back home tomorrow morning. I have not received the petition files in my email as of yet. Nathan is still running into problems with the dynamic content feature (and yes, we DO want dynamic content), but those problems are being solved. He has put in a lot of hours, and when the site is done, I will be paying him extra for the trouble. As for Slashdot, yes, those birthdays are nearly past. If we don't move quickly, we will lose that opportunity. Still, our options for making it onto Slashdot aren't exhausted yet. Long as the birthday is still fairly recent, we're okay.

All right, I'll send you the petition files myself, Jake. I'm gonna go compose the e-mail now; but since I have a dial-up connection and it takes so bloody long for me to attach stuff to e-mails, it probably won't get sent to you until tomorrow at the earliest.

Anyway, good luck with the site. You've rekindled a small bit of hope in me...this MIGHT work, if we act quickly... *crosses fingers*

EDIT: Whaddaya know, I was wrong about the timing thing. Turns out that it only took 2 hours for the .zip file to get attached this time, as opposed to 10 hours every other time I've tried it.

The e-mail has been sent. Now all we can do is wait.

*10 Minutes later*

...
...Man, I hate waiting.

DOUBLE EDIT: Y'know what would be a great song to replace the music at the petition's site so we don't piss S-E off? One of the many, many Chrono Trigger remixes available at www.ocremix.org.

I'm especially considering this one: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01247/

It's a wonderful guitar rendition of To Far Away Times that is both upbeat and relaxing. I love it. Could we contact its creator (Neil Benjamin) and ask his permission to use the song on the site? Or maybe we could contact the creator of one of the other songs and ask them permission to use their music?

Alright. My life's pretty much figured out now. I've read through everything that's been going on, seems like you guys are doing well. Just thought I'd let you know I'm back, and I'll be here as long as no hurricanes hit NO again, or Pennsylvania for that matter, to which I've run away for the semester.

Say what? But...I sent it to the address you provided me in the PM you sent. In fact, I thought I sent it twice...are you sure your e-mail service didn't think it was spam and thus blocked it?

I'll send it again...I figured something like this would happen, so I saved a draft of the email online. It'll be easy to re-send.

EDIT: There. The email's been sent again. If it still doesn't reach you, Jake, then you can get the email from MichaelVash, since I've sent it to him as well. Or you could give me another email address of yours that I can send it to.

Well, it's almost the second day of October...Jake, how's the site coming along? (Sorry if I sound impatient, but I hate being helpless to do anything except wait. )

One can't rush greatness, but I suppose setting off some fireworks directly behind them couldn't hurt.

We're already past the deadline. So that doesn't really matter anymore. It is worthy to note though; that so long as we aren't MONTHS after the birthday, we can at least claim that it was for the birthday. If I am correct, Jake mentioned that he is waiting for the website to become dynamic (updatable). It isn't really in Jake's hands right now, concerning when that site is fixed up, anyway. Since Jake has a professional doing all of this, I REALLY don't think it shall take longer than perhaps another week.

Well, just as well that Chrono Trigger gets remade.

Just about every other classic game is getting remade these days, why not Chrono Trigger?

And I'm the rabid one?

Doing this thing right is much more important than getting it anywhere close to the "birthdate." It is more significant that Chrono Trigger has aged that much than it would have been if we had claimed released this on its birthday anyway.

Plus, we are gonna have to get used to the helpless feeling of waiting anyway, because after we send it to Square there is going to be a very long wait time before we hear anything from them. Somehow I doubt the relief of having the work taken out of our hands will be able to subdue the anticipation we will be feeling.

This is very true. While I've been reluctant to mention it, Square made it very clear that it could be several months, all the way up to a year and a half before we have a definitive answer from Japan. (After an effort this large, that's why I will continue to stay in contact with Square after the petition is submitted, so that they know evaluating it needs to be on the agenda. As for how often I will be in contact with them, that's up in the air but I will try to limit it to once a month so I'm not "pestering" them.)

Hey, I may be crazy, but I don't foam at the mouth the way you do, Prop.

I was expecting that there would be a long wait after we send the petition to S-E, and I know that I will be able to handle it when the time comes, because I will be satisfied knowing that I have done all I could to try and make a Chrono Trigger Remake possible. But right now, I am very eager to get this petition rolling, because I feel that there is much more I can still do at this point (such as collecting signatures, for example).

And on that note...Jake, has your poor web designer friend dropped dead from stress and exhaustion yet? Should I order a tuxedo for his funeral?

LOL. Sure, you can go ahead and quote me when you do that.

Okay, well, do you have a Site Update for us at least? That is, could you possibly provide us with the text you plan to put into the site's pages, or a link to the site's current version that includes any new changes you've made to it? I just wanna see where we stand right now, is all.

Also: I'm not quite understanding what you meant before about the site being "dynamic". Does that mean you'll be able to make major updates to the site, change its layout if you want and have Godlike powers over how it looks, etc., or does it mean you'll just be able to post ordinary progress updates on the News page of the site's current version?

First, go here. I'll use HomestarRunner.com's FAQ page to illustrate what it means when a page is dynamic.

Open up that little book to pages 2 and 3. Now, you're looking at text in a Flash site. The text is rendered in a certain font and font properties (such as color), and then displayed at an angle, probably 10 or so degrees up from horizontal.

But the CONTENT, the actual text itself and what letters will be displayed, is a different story. While in most Flash files (and probably the one you're looking at), the text is hard-coded and contained in the SWF file itself, a dynamic Flash file would have the text stored separately in another file that it pulls the text from. So if I owned HomestarRunner.com and I was making that page dynamic, I would have a separate HTML file that says:

{center}{font size=3}Cartoons & SB Emails{/font}{/center}
{p}{font size=2 color=blue}Q. Are the emails Strong Bad answers real?{/font}

And so on. Then if I want to change one of the questions or correct a typo, I don't have to re-render the Flash file; I just have to pull up that little HTML file and correct the error.

Or in the case of our site, that's when I would post updates or new articles and so on. Make sense?

Now, as for the content itself, I'm pulling up the file now... I'll release a little of it if you want. This is the article that introduces the idea of a CT remake.

Imagine
Remember the story of Chrono Trigger? A grand, unprecedented storyline that touched the hearts of all who played it and grew to love it. However, it was similar to trying to portray the grandeur of The Lord Of The Rings on an old black-and-white handheld game system. The true glory of every sight and sound of Chrono Trigger was obscured and marred by the limitations of the technology of the day. What if all of these limitations could be removed, and gamers could see Chrono Trigger as it was truly envisioned?

Square-Enix has re-released the game for Sony PlayStation, yes. However, in both cases we received only brief glimpses of Chrono Trigger’s true magnificence.

Imagine, if you would, a bewildered Crono sitting atop the frozen summit of Death Peak, a cold wind biting at his face. Looking around, he sees the beautiful Marle standing over him, her ponytail whipped about in the harsh gale. A tear in Marle’s eye, she smiles and drops to her knees, wrapping her arms around Crono, her trembling voice telling him how much she missed him.

Imagine, if you would, the cold fire in Magus’ eyes as he storms down the halls of the mighty Ocean Palace, its high walls and grand statues glowing with the power of Lavos. Imagine the desperate cries of Schala as she tries to stop her mother from bringing ruin upon their kingdom, and their family. Approaching her mother to pull her away from the vile Mammon Machine, she finds herself struck down to the cold, black floor by a bolt of lightning. Looking back up, she sees a look of wild, beastly rage in her once-kind mother’s eyes.

Imagine Lucca’s gasp as she sees the date on the fateful “Day Of Lavos” video. Imagine Marle as she collapses in shock. Imagine the hard resolve in her voice, matched by the tone of the orchestra accompanying her, as she announces that there is only one thing they can do: “We MUST change history!”

Imagine Chrono Trigger, remade.

{center}{font size=3}Cartoons & SB Emails{/font}{/center}
{p}{font size=2 color=blue}Q. Are the emails Strong Bad answers real?{/font}

Sounds good. I can't wait to actually see it up.

It's good, but your third sentence of the "Imagine" section will not be read as positively by those who disliked the Lord of the Rings game as those who liked the game. I find the same problem with it as I found with the original petition you wrote, it was biased by the fans' other gaming tastes.
I don't think we need to use a specific game to create the analogy. Mentioning another game takes the focus away from Chrono Trigger, the reason we're all here. Not to mention the fact that it relates Chrono Trigger to Lord of the Rings, a match up for which I think there is no comparison. Is there a way we can communicate the same idea without being specific? Maybe asking the audience to imagine playing their favorite game from the latest generation of systems on an Atari 2600? Something like that?

On a different note, I think it's important that we are sure to dedicate a section of the site to answering the fans' questions and allowing them to contact us if they have any further questions. Is your guy putting that in?

Heh... little impatient, are we Stoney? I guess I can see how I might have a problem with it, though a paid professional really shouldn't have that much of a problem. At least, I had thought that much. I'm sure he has a good reason, or at least... he better.

As yet another example of what a dynamic thing might be, lets take a look at the wonderful world of computer programming algorithm.

Ok... lets say, on a webpage, you wanted to have a picture that served as a "title page" to your website. This picture would change every month or so. Let us then define some "variables".

month //Variable that stores the current month 1-12.
Picture [] //Array storing the picture for month every month.
User_Input //Input from the user.

So then... we can say...

month == User_Input

thus leading to...

display (Picture [month])

This is dynamic because it is able to be changed. If it was always the same, or hard-coded, we would call it static. In such a case, rather than the above, we would have:

display (picture) //"picture" here no longer being in an array.

If it is hard-coded, the program would have to be rewritten EVERY time you wanted to change the picture. With dynamic coding, you can change how something works with a change of a variable.

...which is good.

Meh, I see your point with the Lord of the Rings part... Did any of you ever play Fellowship Of The Ring on the SNES? Yes, there was one, and yes, it stunk. Maybe not for its time, but let's face it, Tolkien would have burned every copy of that game in existence had he still been alive. It utterly paled in comparison to the grand vision he saw in his mind -- and the similar grand vision of it we saw in theaters. I guess that SNES version is what sparked that comparison in my mind. Maybe, instead, we could specifically reference the SNES version of that game?
