I have never had problems catching rare Pokemon, as I'm usually well over prepared and have everything I could possibly need to catch it, but I ran into a shiny Beldum in my Pokemon Platinum, and was not prepared at all. Beldum has the same catch rate as most rare so I was more angry than excited to run into a shiny Pokemon at that time. I had 16 Ultraballs left in all from over 50, and then when it was almost to the point of killing itself by using Struggle I caught it and did a little happy dance! (wow I have issues)

The hardest for me was a Beldum as well. It wasn't shiny, but it took me 63 Ultra Balls, even when it was at 1 HP (probably) and I constantly put it to sleep.
