Well, technically, certain pokemon were indeed characters. For example, I specifically meant the Squirtle Squad leader squirtle, not squirtles in general. It seems to me like Emo Trainer meant Ash's pikachu, also a specific character of the anime. We didn't mean those were our favorite pokemon, just that they were our favorite characters (who happen to be pokemon) from the show. So I think it flies.
