Why people use to give stuffed animals as a gift to their boyfriends/girlfriends?

I was wondering why lots of people pick a stuffed animal as a gift for their boyfriends/girlfriends.

For example, one of my best friends always buy her boyfriend a stuffed animal(I think the last time it was a "cute" teddy bear again), and he does that too, every time on anniversaries, valentine's day etc. Both of them are adults, like me(she is 21 and he is 26).
Personally I used to like those kind of gifts, when I was younger, but now I think it's a bit childish to give a teddy bear on every occasion. Because this way there is no surprise(every time you're expecting the same present). Besides, even though it's a cute gift, in a few years you usually end up with a huge pile of them

Anyway, what's your opinion? Is a stuffed animal a good gift for your "significant other"?

I didn't understand why some of my ex-girlfriends would give me stuffed animals. I mean it was funny sometimes or loving or whatever, but what am I supposed to do with a stuffed animal?

Because a stuffed animal is something you can sleep with or keep in your room to be reminded of your boyfriend/girlfriend. I have quite a few stuffed animals from different people, not only from romantic relationships but friendships as well. I like to keep them in/near my bed.

However, mine are special and meaningful because I only have them from a few people.. I don't see the point of giving one for every occasion. Maybe it's because they don't know what else to buy.

Catwoman without throwing her cuddly toys down a food disposal pipe was just terrible as Halle Berry proved. It gives you something that's so easy to destroy and yet so easy to care for at the same time.I would think they are better to give as gifts once in a while rather than all the time but i guess they are guaranteed to get a reaction as well.I have a small collection myself but they've been black bagged and i only look them out when i want to reflect/rearrange everything i own.I'd never get rid of my stuffed toys though a lot of memories from them are in my head that seem so much more tangible with an object connected to them. My favorite is a vintage real animal fur panda hand puppet with a red corduroy lining and movable jaw.Hes really cute and although i got him myself it was a period in my life I'd never want to forget as well. The same fine lady i was with when I discovered that puppet also used it as a real way to hurt me by saying she was taking a stuffed toy back and once you've been together over a year and she decides to do that its pretty painful.

Another reason is it means you can throw things at each other and no one gets that hurt...

One of the best plushies one can receive has to be the face hugger.

I'm not sure, maybe it's romantic. Like sunsets and flowers.

I don't get chocolate though. It just makes you fatter. =O

I'm pretty grateful no matter what I get. However, if I did mention something that I like around her (or give her a big hint), I'd like to see that gift eventually. I'm pretty patient too so no biggie. However, I like to think that my friends should get very good presents so I try to see what they want (without asking would be cool). It worked great this one time with this girl I really loved (NOTE: past tense). I heard her mention this manga once and I made nothing big out of it, but, I went to the bookstore one day and bought her the next volume. It was exactly what she wanted and she was real happy. That was a great day. Oh well.

I don't understand it at all. I mean, we all liked Stuffed Animals when we were 7, but now that we're 17-30, we want something that is awesome and fun and will entertain you or make you look real good.

Its quick, cheap, and i dont have to put in a lot of thought into the gift and my girl usually likes it. What would a person want with say, some stupid flowers? Those die n u throw em away. If ima spend money on a chick it better last more than 2 days.

I wouldn't know but I would not focus on materials. The worst thing to be around is someone really materialistic cause they will end up caring more about the present then you

You don't have to get a present could use that money to do something fun or whatever.

I love stuffed animals. My fiance bought me a little bumble bee holding a heart. When you squeeze it it says, "You're my little love bug". I think it's the cutest thing in the world. Then he bought me a little black and red puppy with a heart in its mouth that says 'Love Me'.

I think they're cute and sweet. Plus they don't rip like a card.

I don't see a big problem with it, but I would think that giving somebody a teddy for every occassion is a bit..."Much".

But if you give somebody a random teddy bear with another gift, or with flowers or something, that sounds like a more appropriate use for it.

A teddy bear all the time ?

I think it might be good, but for one time only.

If you want to give more as you are too darn lazy to search the internet for a better gift other then stuffed animals.... Try to get those rare Sonic plushies as they are condered animals and they are awesome .

Or get Mario ones if your partner likes, depends, but not teddy bears all the time .

I never did that

I don't think that my gf would like it as much as going out to see the movies, going to the park, etc. Material objects are not a super high priority in her mind.

I was never sure why stuffed animals are a common present.

Perhaps it is because it's really soft and fun to hug
OR maybe the bf/gf is lazy and the stuffed animal was a last minute present.

lmao... this thread made me laugh....

I personally only did this once or twice but I've always thought it was kind of lame. Although, I'm not much for getting pointless gifts for people. But everyone is different so maybe some people appreciate the thought that goes into actually buying something.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
