This just recently came out, probably a couple weeks ago. It's an interactive flash that, with use of a slide bar, lets you zoom out to view the size of the universe, and zoom in all the down to the size a super string and Planck length. It gives a lot of examples (pictures) of the sizes of certain objects to compare with other. Even better is that as you zoom in or out there are gray circles that represent different magnitudes of size (yattometer, meter, exameter, etc.) This flash is very informative and shows people just how tiny and gargantuan things are in this universe.

This may seem like something to go into Web Splurge, but I put it here because of its educational value. Take a look and discuss what you all think in here.

that was awesome. The difference in size between some of the smallest and largest things is unbelievable.

I was somewhat surprised at how many things they listed that were under 1 meter in length. It almost seems like the smaller things get the more numerous they become.

Yes, there are quite a few small things in the universe. Look at it this way- it's easier and takes a lot less time to create something as small as a microbe than it does to create something as big as a star. There are a billion billion stars out there, but there are quadrillion trillion microbes that exist for each of them. (numbers aren't that accurate, but it gives you an idea)

I hate to burst your bubble but this Flash was produced more then a few weeks ago. I saw it on another site around early May.

I do admit though that it was a cool and fun game. It is truly disconcerting to actually see how small we are in size compared to the universe. We are less then a single cell in size basically. Its certainly throws the mind for a loop doesn't it?

I really liked that. It's fun to see the theories of things that are too small or too far away to see.

All I can say is. I could not see myslf from the edge of the universe O_o That's pretty intense how we're THAT small compared to soooo many things... but then we also remember string theory and how there are thyings smaller than us. Makes me wonder, I know there has to be intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, but have they been able to do what we have done here? And effectively measure the universe?

the universe is HUGE. We are tiny, tiny little things compared to the things out there. All in all, I find it all pretty amazin.

alexanyways : shouldn't this thread be in the outer space/ robotics/brain forum?
