I heard a speech describing this generation as the "Hypersocializing Generation," where our generation is filled with inventions and technologies who's purpose was to bring everyone together, yet it seems that these items causing people to be farther apart from people right next to them. Things like cells phones with texting, social networks like Facebook, and portable devices, like laptops, ipads, etc. Some claims it to be "multitask," but from statistics, it seems to be a lack of personal relationships with this generation, having increase in having this generation stuck behind a computer screen communicating to another person, even if the person is from a different country.

What do you think about this? and where do you thing this is headed in the future?

(an example: do you text someone who is sitting right next to you? this is what we are talking about)

While I agree that it seems we spend more time socializing with people we don't see.... I think for some people it is a benefit.

I am not a very social person when I am face to face with people. Well, let me clarify... I don't generally like large groups of people to socialize with. I tend to prefer small groups (3-6 people ish). Having online interactions and socializing allows me (and plenty of others who are on Vizzed) the opportunity to converse with a MUCH wider array of people that we otherwise would have.

I also think that the people who benefit the most from using social media will use it and those that dislike those forms of communication will continue to use the phone and face to face contact to keep in touch.

I do think it is problematic in some cases though. I know there are people out there that get almost 0 face to face contact with anyone because they can communicate through technology almost completely.

Tech has totally divided people these days. I've heard plenty of stories how girls might text rumors to other girls about someone else, or a nude picture leaking out and getting into everyone's phone or computer. Those are just 2 examples on how tech as been used for divisive reasons. I don't necessarily it is so bad because through social networks like Facebook and Myspace, we can meet lots of new people from around the world. Unfortunately though, in so doing, we lose track of the relationships that actually matter in our lives.

I do think that things like this are ruining society as a whole. I've seen it happen before too, girls sitting right there next to each other, texting each other.
I think in some cases, interaction like this is good, but only in moderation and if it doesn't detract much from your time with real people. Some ideas are playing a card game together rather than a video game, or talking with people around you rather than texting the person next to you.

The lack of personal socializing in today's society is disturbing. Online interaction just doesn't come close, really.

Yea after a while its ridiculous. I saw this advertisement for something called a "kin" it looks like a ugly cell phone that links all of your social networking sites to something called the "Kin Network". I just don't see the appeal of this to normal people. Is it that vital to constantly update your friends of what your doing?
