Chrono Trigger. It's one of my favorite games of all time. It ALSO sort of got me hooked on RPGs in general. I played some of Earthbound. I liked the game, but I never did finish it... the game was more of a sort of comedic step away from usual RPGs. But, I never did find the story that involving the same way Chrono Trigger did. And, simplicity isn't something I find that interesting in RPGs.
Plus, Chrono Trigger had multiple endings which gives a lot of replay value. And I wasn't really game on the whole first person RPG thing...

I'll have to vote for Chrono Trigger on this one. I just recently picked it up for the DS (never played it on the Super Nintendo, not sure why) and now I can't put it down. I'm having way more fun playing Chrono Trigger than I ever had playing Earthbound (no offense, Earthbound is still an epic game)

I love Chrono Trigger! The characters were epic, the gameplay was fun, introduced double/triple team moves, and great theme music. A lot of it reminded me of final fantasy games and I believe its the first RPG I've ever played when I got into gaming back when I was a child. The game will now and forever be legendary in RPG history as one of the best RPG of all time.

This was a tough choice for me, but I had to go with Earthbound only because of the comedy factor, the crazy enemies and attacks, and the fact that there are some items that are BEYOND RARE in Earthbound, where as you simply charm to steal items in Chrono Trigger which makes it easier. I almost never died in Chrono Trigger and playing it over got too easy and boring with the same stuff happening for a while. Earthbound is different due to the different randomness to everything in the game, and in my book randomness is AWESOME!!
