My NES has a RF switch that I don't use because I don't know what is used for except that it is used for the T.V and the antenna. Also what does it do?

Are you perhaps talking about this-

Or do you mean something else?

Well, there are two ways a NES can be hooked up to a TV.
I would assume you use method two, which is using the AV plugs at the side of the console.
That's the red and white ports.
The device above is used in the other method, hooking up through the aerial.
You plug one end into the TV aerial port, turn on the NES (with game in it of course), and tune a channel until you find the game.
You dont need to plug the other end in to use the NES.
What it is for is so that you can plug in the antenna and not need to unplug the NES cables when you want to watch TV.

So there you have it. The RF unit allows you to play a game console by tuning a channel on the TV to the game consoles channel.
