Plastic Surgery - Is it right?
I am talking about when people have it for looks and not for injuries, but what is your view on this? I believe that plastic surgery that is used for non-medical purposes is not right, and that it should not be used for looks when people have nothing wrong with them... *cough* *cough* Michael Jackson *cough* *cough* So what is your opinion on this matter?

I do not think it is right unless someone is really deformed. Any other reason than that and I am not very much in favor of it. I think most of the time though plastic surgery makes someone look wierder. -------------------- |

I think it can serve a purpose. For some people a little bit of plastic surgery can fix a broken/bent nose or close gaps in teeth or something similar to this to the point where it looks normal and the person is no longer self-conscious in relation to the fixed body part.
However, I expect that the majority of plastic surgery done in the world is done not because someone needs to fix a small problem that is affecting their self-esteem but instead to promote a false body image that they couldn't achieve without the surgery. Well the main reason why celebs get it is simple, their face is what represents them. They don't want to look all messed up so they get plastic surgery but in return they look even more messed up after it -------------------- |

If people want to get plastic surgery to change their appearance who am I to tell them they shouldn't?
I really don't care if some random stranger wants to get plastic surgery, and it's their body so I say it's perfectly fine. What isn't fine is that plastic surgeons make so much money for the services. It's not like they are real doctors, they are basically the same as hairdressers, just for body parts. So my view is plastic is fine, it's the cosmetic plastic surgeons that are wrong. The exception to the rule is of course the surgeons that do it for people for medical issues, they are ok cause they are not in it for the money. ![]() ![]() I really don't care if some random stranger wants to get plastic surgery, and it's their body so I say it's perfectly fine. I agree with DH for the most part, but I still think it's not entirely right. It shows so much vanity, and if people care that much about how they appear to other people, they should just stay inside all day.
If they don't like how they look to themselves, that's a whole other issue, and it means they are in severe need of some self-esteem. I think plastic surgery is best reserved for those who could really benefit from it, like people with disfiguring injuries and the like. (sigh) But sadly, people are incredibly vain, and only want to make themselves look "perfect".

Like DH and Hypermonkey before me, I think it's pretty pointless unless the plastic surgery is necessary like for deformities or disfigured people, and that plastic surgeons shouldn't get so much money since it's ridiculous to even really call them surgeons that much.
And I just don't like fake anything really, it's pretty annoying to me and sometimes seeing people with such a fake body just disgusts me. Let's face it. Most societies have some really strange fashion trait about them, regardless of their place in time. Ancient China had the binding of their women's feet, the Mayans flattened their children's heads to make them look more like corn, their idol. We, as Americans, have this stupid obsession with plastic surgery and the way we look. I think its ridiculous that some people can spend thousands of dollars on re doing their face. I don't think that people who have plastic surgery are idiots, but I do think that it is funny how much money Americans spend on beauty every year (a statistic here would be great). I don't think that the concept is right though. I think that plastic surgery is only alright for people with deformities, but if people want to spend money re working their faces, they can be my guest. -------------------- |

Well honestly, I think that it's the person who's having plastic surgery's opinion whether they think it's right. For example, in the Second and First World War,when people had plane crashes they had to have plastic surgery, in the event that their face got burnt. So in a way, it's right, but in a way, it's not -------------------- |

If the person is seriously deformed or burn due to some kind of accident or illness then it is very appropriate. Other than that I really disagree with those who get it to simply look better (it usually fails anyway cause they go overboard) -------------------- |

it is not about what is right. do you want someone telling you how to live your life? looking down on someone because they had the money to get surgery on themselves is rather shallow and is just as bad as people who get work done just because. -------------------- |

Zamiel : daniel tosh said that lol
A lil true life story: My friends parents got divorced, and the mom divorced the dad just to get money from the house they lived in. So the dad had to split the money from the house with her. SO she thought she would go and spend 30k on plastic surgery to get all beautiful and meet a new man. Well the dad ended up winning in court so that he doesn't have to pay her alimony (she was counting on that) so she ended up losing her apartment, and now lives in a motel 6 with some crazy ass black dude named "crazy"(not making this up). Who recently beat her ass for some reason lol i dont know why. But the moral of this story is ummm dont get plastic surgery unless your sure your going to win in court? Plastic surgery isn't necessarily wrong. But I don't really agree with it. At least not in young people, anyway.
I guess I could empathize with people who are a little bit older, who want to get surgery to look a little younger, but when it comes to teens and young adults, I think it's kind of unnecessary. Mostly because teens and young adults who get plastic surgery don't need it. The women just want larger breasts or immaculate faces, which is superficial and kind of vain. But hey, that's just me. It's their bodies and they have the right to irreversibly wreck it. :|

I had plastic surgery done so what do you all think of my case?
Here's what happened: I had two moles on my face, and they were not contained within the skin but slightly uplifted. They were of decent size and I was *always* self-conscious about them since I was a kid. I had another large mole on my lower stomach that became potentially cancerous. So in the fall of 2008, I had the mole on my stomach removed for medical reasons, and since the doctor was already removing one, I asked if he could remove the two on my face. He did. Now while the surgical removal of the mole on my stomach was medical, the ones on my face were for cosmetic... Now, I feel way more confident about myself. I feel like I look handsome. Is there anything wrong with that? With more confidence in oneself? Here's what happened: I had two moles on my face, and they were not contained within the skin but slightly uplifted. RapidFox : Absolutely, I think young people getting it just to look "prettier" (it always backfires) is rather stupid.
bdfalc0n07 : Your case is fine, I think in that case it was justified, especially because if one had to be removed for medical reasons, there is a chance the other two might in the future. But I don't see a problem with it. Now, in general, there's nothing wrong with plastic surgery per se, but I do dislike it, especially because it almost always backfires. I can't find anything morally wrong with getting plastic surgery (except for the vanity involved in cases that are purely to beautify... pride goes before the fall), but I can't say that I would ever have cosmetic surgery for any non-important reason. I can't tell them they have to stop, but I can disagree. bdfalc0n07 : Your case is fine, I think in that case it was justified, especially because if one had to be removed for medical reasons, there is a chance the other two might in the future.
