Anyone here play ancient board games like Senet, Hounds and Jackals, Mehen, Mancala and Mah Jongg online? I love playing Senet and Mah Jongg online or downloaded on my computer. I didn't see Senet or Hounds and Jackals in the RGR.

I've tried only Mah Jongg a few times, but it was a bit difficult and boring for me
But I know some people that they really enjoy it.
(By the way, nice picture)

I've played mah jongg on the computer but I haven't really heard of the others... maybe mancala, but not sure. Could you provide a basic explanation on what they are? That one in the picture, which one is that? It looks cool.

Elara : You can click on the icture and find out

Anyway, It says that it's King Tut's Ivory Senet Board. As I said earlier, click on the pic and read the info on it.

I have an authentic wooden chess set from 1865, though a few pieces are missing.

Elara: Sure! I'll start with Egypt.

Senet:

Senet is a board game dates back to predynastic Egypt and it may be the oldest board game in the world. The Senet gameboard is a grid of thirty squares, arranged in three rows of ten. A senet game has two sets of pawns (at least five of each and, in some sets, more). The actual rules of the game are a topic of some debate, although historians have made educated guesses. Senet historians Timothy Kendall and R.C. Bell have each proposed their own sets of rules to play the game. These rules have been adopted by different companies which make Senet sets for sale today.

Hounds and Jackals:

Hounds and Jackals also know as 58 holes is a popular New Kingdom game so named for the game pieces with the heads of jackals and hounds. Hounds and Jackals is a two player game each player has five pegs and they compete with each other to be the first to move their pieces around the palm tree and onto the ‘Shen’ hieroglyph for ‘encircling’, or ‘eternity’. The number of places a player can move is determined with a set of two dice formed from knuckle bones.

The video is a scene from the Paramount motion picture The Ten Commandments (1956). In this scene, Nefretiri (Anne Baxter) is playing the Hounds and Jackals Game with Pharaoh Sethi (Cedric Hardwicke).

Mehen:

Mehen is a board game that was played in ancient Egypt is found dating from approximately 3000 BC and continues until 2300 BC. The game was named in reference to Mehen, a serpent god protecting Ra during his night-time underworld journey. There is a board depicting a coiled snake whose body is divided into rectangular spaces. Several boards have been found with different numbers of segments, without distinguishing marks or ornamentation. The variability suggests that the number of segments was of little importance to the game. There are objects associated with the board which may or may not be playing pieces. From archaeological evidence, the game seems to have been played with lion or lioness shaped game pieces, in sets of 3 or as many as 6, and a few small spheres (marbles/balls).
