I'm interested to read natural disaster stories if anyone has any because i live in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and there's never been anything like that around here, at least not during my life.

The worst we get is a blizzard with about 4 feet of snow and they only happen maybe 1 out of 5 winters. Every once in awhile we get a tornado warning but they never happen.

I looked that up to make sure it was true and sure enough, it is. Glad you're okay.

I was in Hurricane Katrina. I was in New Orleans, but South Carolina. It didn't hit us too hard, but it raped New Orleans.

I live in Indiana. Closest I've ever been to one is a tornado. and it wasn't even a big one.

I've been through bad blizzards and ice storms... but nothing more than a few broken power lines and trees, car accidents, power outages, and hours of shoveling come from them.

You know, we don't hear of volcanoes very much eh? It seems like there's been one earthquake after and other though.

Not really, closest thing to a natural disaster around here is either a Tornado, which only touches down near the border or a blizzard. Worst blizzard was 3 feet of snow I got a week off school it was that bad You don't know how awesome it was, I was wishing for a snow day for years and finally got a week off from snow

Well, I've been through an earthquake, but that was when I was really young, so I didn't know what the Richter Scale indicated it was. Still, when I ask my parents, they say that it was pretty big.

I don't know of you call this a natural disaster exactly but it's still cool and funny. This one time at band camp...lol..

Okay, now seriously, this one time, me and a buddy are walking down the street, I see this freaking deer in the middle of downtown, dead in the road. It becomes all frantic and doesn't know what to do, suddenly it starts galloping towards us on the sidewalk, then jumps into a freaking bank window, jumps out, darts down the alley, and dissappears. It was pretty awesome. If you seen the town and where it happen, you would ask yourself why a deer was even there in the first place.

@ Light Knight - Yea earthquakes have been crazy the last few years. Volcanoes not so much, but i watch the history channel alot, and there's shows that tell of how some epic volcanoes are long overdue of erupting. Like the huge one out west in Wyoming and the surrounding states... The history channel has told me if that were ever to erupt (which apparently its only a matter of time) it would be devastating and the people all over the world that didnt get killed by the volcano itself would die from the poisonous ash that would rain down for days. There's one like that i think around New Zealand too. Kind of gloomy to think about a stupid volcano being a worldwide catastrophe... We got a four foot blizzard this year and i did my fair share of shoveling. My body ached for like a week after that. LOL, the worst part is we bought an awesome snowblower just as winter was getting over with. I DESPISE shoveling snow. At least next year I wont have to.

@ shredknives - midnite isn't that badly mistaken if at all. I read about it on a bunch of websites earlier and half called it a 6.9 and half called it a 7.2. Then i realized that it was calling it 7.2 closer to Mexico and further up into Southern Cal they were calling it a 6.9. I dont know exactly how that works but different websites were describing it differently. I guess closer to Mexico they got it a little worse.

@ JigSaw - I know how awesome it was to have snow days when i was in school, but we always had to make all ours up at the end of the year. No fun sitting in school sweating in the summer heat until June 16th when we should have been out of there on June 3rd. LOL, think about that side of it.

I also forgot we get avalanches here from time to time but you must live in mountains to be affected by it So snow is the biggest factor here.

@ JusTReaL - I know all about Allentown. Alot of my rapper friends perform there.

@ JigSaw - Avalanches count as a natural disaster. I forgot about them. There's mountains around me where I live, but they're not really big enough to effect me if there was an avalanche, only the people living on them or right around them at the bottom.

When I was 3 or 4, a tornado went through our camp ground nearly tipping our camper and apparently I slept through it. I've also been through some pretty wicked blizzards and have been snowed in, literally, more than once.

In Minnesota we had a big blizzard on Halloween back in '91, I think. Pretty fun having 4+ feet of snow on the ground over the course of a week. A even better event I've been through, although I wouldn't call it it a disaster, is the day the temperature dropped to -60 degrees F 15 years ago. Let me tell you, that was pretty weird and cool. Most of the state was shut down. No one could go to work. All the roads were closed to people except for emergency vehicles. I lived a couple blocks from my middle school and I've never seen such a busy street so empty during the morning time. My brother and I walked to the intersection by our school and within 5 minutes of being outside our faces began hurting because the water in our skin literally began to start freezing. Needless to say, we ran back home. Immediately. It was that dangerous to be outside. You guys ever do the "boiling water on frozen concrete" trick where you throw hot water up and watch it instantly freeze the moment it hits the ground? I did it that day, and the water froze while it was in the air. Fun day.

@ Cyro Xero - Now THAT is what I was looking for when i posted this thread. This was a perfectly detailed account of the events. Everyone else just told me what disaster they were close to and didnt elaborate.

I've never seen anything quite like that in my life. I was thinking though... Imagine a football game in that kind of weather... It couldn't possibly happen, could it? They'd have to postpone the game I think, and football rarely postpones games. It takes something like 911 to make football wait it out. But i guess that's why the Minnesota Vikings play inside a dome.

Boiling water freezing in the air is something special.
