Well, six weeks ago my parents signed me up for this speech class. I am doing a declamation, which means I have to memorize and recite a famous speech to the judges. It has to be six-eight minutes long with an introduction. I am right now memorizing "We chose to go to the moon" by JFK and I will have to say it in the contest on Tuesday. There are ten contestants for each category, so I will be placed anywhere one through ten. I hope to do well, but this is my first time actually saying a speech in front of the judges and the other contestants...

Any tips on how to do well or comments?

Pace yourself! The most common thing people do is to rush when they get nervous. Make sure you take time to breathe and be deliberate in saying the words slowly and concisely.

Beyond that there isn't much advice to offer . Just try not to stress about it. This isn't life and death... it's just you saying a speech .

Oh, and practice! Say the speech a few different times for a few different people if you want to be most comfortable with it.

Watch the speech given by the original person who said it, and see how they do it. It'll
help give you an idea of which words to enunciate, a nice pace, and let you see how
someone else would do it. I hope that helps

It may seem to you like your stalling and you might think they're thinking "why doesn't he start?" but 5 seconds from their perspective is like 20 from yours. Take a few seconds to get used to your environment, and BREATH!

Tip number 2: Walk tall, think tall, stand tall. (I hope XF sees this). You need a straight but flexible posture. Feet apart as wide as your shoulders, and don't sway.

Definitely work on your timing and pronunciation. That's my biggest problem when giving a speech, but if you execute it correctly, the judges will love you (and possibly a few members of your audience will as well).

YES! YES! I got second in my division! I don't know what I got overall, but all my work paid off! I got a medal for it also. I might be able to get a picture here for it though!
