The first time I stayed up til midnight on New Years Eve was when the Millennium turned (and thank god I didn't understand that people were trying to ruin the fun)

and now these days I have to find methods to keep me awake without resorting to coffee (normally I would use Coffee Crisps, it's a Canadian Candy Bar and it kind of works) and the last couple of years I found myself saying "Okay this is the last time I'm going to do this" but lo and behold I still do it.

I "stay up" until midnight for New Year's Eve because I go to sleep between 11:30 and 12:30 pretty much every day. I don't watch the ball drop or anything.

I've stayed up for it as long as I can remember.

I doubt I did it as a kid but I didn't really care when I was 5 or 10. I'm pretty sure as a teen I stayed up for it but at the point I was staying up that late most weekends anyway.

And now as an adult it's just a fun excuse to get together and stay up late and what not. I don't bother going out or watching the ball drop or anything. Just hang out at home with some family or friends and do nothing else.

Even without that fact, here in Spain we have the tradition of the Twelve Grapes, consisting on eating a grape for each of the 12 clock bells on midnight in December 31. The most commonly accepted origin of the tradition is a surplus of grape production in the first decade of the 20th century, stating that eating the grapes in this fashion would grant good luck and prosperity.

It's been a heavily televised event for decades with literally every channel broadcasting it so I've been instilled into this tradition by my family since I was a baby, therefore I doubt there will come a time when I'm not staying up for this tradition.

As a child it was something rather new still, and the fireworks excited little old me. We also frequently celebrated with some friends, so I was able to hang out with them all evening which was nice.

These days I don't particularly care for a new year. I just like to take the opportunity to give my parents a hug, and tell some of my close friends in America what they are missing out on. I just happen to be awake because I very rarely go to bed before midnight.

I don't intentionally stay up for it but one of my favorite stupid things I do every year is at 6 PM my time is ask Furret how the new year is to see if the world is ending or something since he's already in the next year while I try and enjoy the last 6 hours of my year that said this year really sucked as Ohio State played on New Year's Eve and looked awful and our season came to an end but at least this time the game didn't come down to a kick that was hit just before the clock hit midnight and missed wide left to start the year like in 2022 that was the miserable new year ever in my life but yeah I was not in a good mood the rest of the year after Ohio State lost I couldn't of slept before the year was over if I wanted to.
