I'm looking for RPG Maker 98, not Dante 98. It's the version that came out in 1998. It wasn't as well known as its predecessors.

I can't place the images correctly in the post. I think it's because of my browser.

This is the original name in Japanese
RPG メーカー 98

Link where it was uploaded for direct download.

I fixed the images and links for you.

This topic is of interest to me, since I actively used RPG Maker 95 in the day and remember hearing about RPG Maker 98. I don't remember much about it but it's possible I may have downloaded it at one point but that would've been like 25+ years ago to a computer that has been formatted since.

Someone has bound to have a copy on their computer somewhere on the internet though, so you're doing the right thing going to every community you can find to ask about it.

I use to host so many RPG Maker programs and files back in the day on this site and my previous sites, but RPG Maker 98 was never one I hosted as far as I know.

I just found an archive of my very terrible Geocities website, unfortunately no link to it there.

I did find RPG Maker 97, which isn't what you're looking for but I read that RPG Maker 98 is an upgraded version of 97.

I also found someone selling a copy on a Japanese website as a physical disc:
https://jp.mercari.com/item/m25714313770

Pretty cheap at only $8.92, but not sure what the shipping is. I wonder if you could contact the person to rip it and pay him to rip it for you or something. Although there would probably be a language barrier.

Someone is also selling it on Ebay but for a lot more ($89.99).

A vintage RPGtsukuru thread in current year?! You have piqued my interest.

I found a disc for RPG Maker 98 on archive, and the file on the disc was 'DANTE2'. I'm not sure if it's what you want, but it was the only thing I could find that seems to be tied to PC98, but I've been having trouble getting it to work.

The disc was on an .iso file and not in an .hdi or relevant filetype to play on it, and I'm thinking 'Hey wait, Neko Project lets you make blank hard disc image files. Let me see if I can get it to work through that.' But I've never done it for PC98 games.

I tried to copy them into a blank .hdi I made from Neko Project's NewDisc function and then I use Anex86 HDD in a program called EditDisc. (editdisc.exe) Old, old software for PC98 which took some time to get because the original host and mirrors for it were dead links. Had to find it here. I make my disc, I open it. It shows several partitions titled:「裏裏裏裏裏裏」

(EDIT: After looking into it these seem to be unformatted partitions, and I need to use DOS in some way to get this to work. More research needed.)
When I try import, it says 'Directory full.' When I try to make a new directory, it says 'Directory full.'

I go back and on closer inspection all those partitions have 0MB remaining. This was on a 5MB hdi. So I make an hdi with 40MB and open that. Now there are no partitions at all that I can choose. All this trouble for a file I'm not even sure is what you're looking for...

Normally PC98 game files are loaded onto an already existing .hdi, and it looks like this. (ex: Popful Mail) and the files on the DANTE2 iso looks like the right stuff so I'm not sure why this isn't working. Shouldn't be anything wrong with that, it's been a long time since I've posted but I am also interested in figuring this out as well.

I'll try doing more research and see if I can get some help on figuring this out but don't wait for me.
(EDIT: Found possible lead. It's a lot to take in but I'll keep working at it. Link)
(If it's blocking you for some reason that's likely because the site isn't using HTTPS.)

You're putting a lot of time into this investigation. It definitely piqued my interest as well, so much that I almost purchased a copy of the game on Ebay, lol. Nice research and discoveries by the way.

t's been downloaded over 400 times on the RPG Crisis forum. I could have it.
Rockman8x. The SN of the person who uploaded it to RPGCrisis. The username is very generic. The administrator's email is possibly inactive. He's not responding. Another person who could have it is Kaimega, aka megabomber. Also from the acsiinetwork staff. He hasn't been active on DeviantArt since 2015 or in Blender since 2017. I haven't tried sending messages to those accounts. Elemental Crisis. This user appears in the credits for RPG Maker VX scripts. He also uploaded tools to that forum.

Here's another clue that might help you find it on a Japanese hosting site or FTP: https://amonftp.tripod.com/

The file is this one, but I haven't found a way to find that FTP link. It's possible it no longer exists, but someone else might have this link saved.

Been dragging my feet on research. I didn't want to make another post until I had made some real progress but I figure I might as well show what I found.
Moreover, EditDisc will not be used. Kept running into dead ends until I realized this wasn't actually what I needed. This program is only used for translating the games, not for importing.
All I really needed was a system disc for DOS and Neko Project, the file is called dos62_system.fdi, and both the possible downloads for it on the site I linked earlier and another guide I found were dead links. And again, this is just to get something I now am 99% certain is not the correct game.

RPGメーカー98.lzh 37,574 KB
If that is the filename, then it's likely not what I got, because there's no file titled that in what I managed to extract. What I have is probably not even RPG Maker 98, which is what I suspected. Then finally, I found this site just yesterday and I thought, "yes, jackpot!" Empty url, no download. ARGH!
Overall, I made a lackluster search with no result. I will keep trying but personal obligations aside I have done most of what I can, sorry.
