All characters have access to all their abilities and equipment.
Yu-Gi-Oh characters would only have canonically used cards, for example, but they could use any card whenever they choose.

I start with Kirby vs Mario

Judging by their Smash Bros matchup head to head, I feel like Sonic would win. Shulk has a bigass sword he needs to swing, and Sonic can just use dodge attack and hit him from the back. I hope Shulk does eventually hit Sonic in the face with an Air Slash.
