oh please god don't let me have a repeat of review day

It is time once again for another edition of Storytime with Classgame

So earlier this month I had mentioned in one of my reviews that something had happened that drove me to own...or rather burn a copy of YDKJ the ride, it was on a Sunday earlier in the month and well I felt it was time to pick up the coins that were on my floor in my room that were between my dresser and the large cabinet where I keep first aid supplies, my computer games, my comics and other graphic novels, and figured I would have needed a magnet. Well, that’s where my story takes a negative turn, my head was somewhere it shouldn’t have been and for some reason the magnet was on top of my laptop, and you can probably guess what happened from there, only I don’t think I realized what I had done until my computer was frozen and I hear weird things coming out of it

And that’s when I realized I had done something wrong, not even a reboot could fix it, and to make matters worse, the place where I got the laptop was no longer doing face to face business, at least that’s what they told me when I phoned them, so I asked them if they could recommend another place I could take it to (because if I took it to Geek Squad it would have cost more and it probably would have taken forever) the new place had replaced my drive and had given me a lot more space which is a good thing because I was about two months away from making a major project (it had been planned a year in advance) and this was going to take up a ton of GB’s (11 to be exact) the big teletoon video ended up being two hours long. Besides that after I got it back I spent the day re-installing everything including my virtual machines and I didn’t have to put a new system in them thank god, however some of the games had to be reinstalled, and even worse I lost quite a few projects that had already been done (including some You Don’t Know Jack holiday acknowledgements) so the day after I finished installing I got right back to work on gaming season, however I had to abandon the morning gaming that season because it meant having to re-install Treasure Cove a game I had not yet completed, and I hadn’t completed Level 3 of Carmen Sandiego Math Detective either.

So where Does You Don’t Know Jack the Ride come in? Well sometimes I do crazy things when I’m upset, and trying to figure out a way to burn a two disc game well that was enough to give me a push, I was successful at it, and I was shocked to find out that the game worked in my mother’s computer, but I didn’t play it from there though.

Now you’d think that this is where my story would end right? Wrong! Four months after the magnet incident something else happened, and there was no magnet involved, and somehow I got the same message I had received when I had rebooted the computer after the magnet incident, a friend of mine (who I almost sent the laptop to for fixing the first time around) had told me to take the battery out and turn off the laptop, it worked, but then later than week it happened again, I tried the same method but it didn’t work, and while I was in the middle of doing a Santa Clause binge, like I had just started the Santa Clause 2 and suddenly I got a frowny face with the blue screen of doom, and then that message appeared this time I couldn’t get around it, so the next day we took it back to that place (my friend had said my drive was dead....how could die after four months?) and they said they’d put another drive in, I don’t know what caused it this time around, usually those sites I use to watch stuff I can only see on streaming services are safe (I hope it wasn’t one of those sports sites when I tried to find a place to watch the Jets game......I wish Disney didn’t have to schedule their live performances in December because my mother likes to take over all the dvr’s since she has a Hallmark Holiday addiction, something I prefer to avoid because ALL THE MOVIES ARE THE SAME!!! God I hope there’s a safe place to watch the superbowl) since I have typed this I had found another feed, I don't care who wins in two weeks just give me some commercials!

And as a result (since I didn’t pay for a rush job this time I didn’t get it back til almost a week later) and this time I had a harder time with the virtual machines, Oracle didn’t have a turtle in the lower right corner before I don’t know what happened but that wasn’t very fair, and to make things even worse VMWare was being weird suddenly it had performance issues and now I can’t really use it unless I have an oracle machine on in the background as well, and I can’t really use that now.... unless I install something new and see if that makes a difference but I don’t feel crazy or desperate at this time so I don’t think I’ll try. I had it so bad with VMWare that I nearly wrecked it all because I couldn’t disable mitigations, I tried to downgrade it but it wouldn’t really have it so I instead opted against my better judgement to upgrade to VMWare pro... thankfully I found one of those license keys online and it worked. Well, I guess it was a good thing that I had opted NOT to do any console gaming last Christmas (mostly because I’m not getting the views I want for them, you’d think people would have wanted to see me play something from Genesis, but I don’t have the patience to do Sonic) and to make matters worse they told me that the motherboard in my laptop could go within 6 months ...and that is part of the reason why I decided to put the YDKJ Holiday acknowledgements

Well, the moral of the story, find a better place to put the plastic coin holders because that magnet caused me some of my sanity, AND for me next time I should ask the techies to make sure Virtualization is enabled as well when they replace a drive (it was kind of difficult for me to get that done because they told me that the Bios wouldn’t recognize the system on restart though it won’t hurt the computer)

And as for how things will go? Well Stay tuned because by the next TdV arrives I may have an update either my laptop will still be alive or it won’t (I just hope it doesn’t go kablooie during the Summer tour)

classgame : Wow that stinks that your laptop gave you problems. What is also frustrating is when it is caused by an accident. Sounds like you might need to try to get a new computer. I had one of my computers give me trouble last year except it was not due to a magnet.

Firs the cooling fan went out in my computer. I would be on my computer for about three hours and then it would just crash. I got the fan fixed and all seemed well. About 5 months later I too got the blue screen of doom. I could not even do a safe reboot. It turned out my hard drive went out. Like you I had to reinstall everything.

Your magnet story reminds me of what happened while I was in 5th grade way back in the day. I was not at school when this event took place but my friends told me about it. One of the students who had been kicked out of another school. Got mad at the teacher. He set his desk on fire. The he took a magnet and put it on three of the computers. He was severely punished and kicked out of school.

While the computer people employed by the school system got the computers working again. They were never the same. The computers behaved like your laptop did. Eventually they replaced the computers with new ones.

good god, I would be more concerned about the arson than the computers there, had the computers got torched I would have had them replaced

were they macs or Windows 3.1s?
