While the use of repetitive sections and free form melodies to structure a song first appeared in 1924, the 1950s marked the beginning of a lot of the vocal stylings, practices, and genre roots that we recognize as normal today. The first long-play vinyl records were released in 1948, and many of the first uses of longer form recorded music started to appear in the 1950s. In 1955, Frank Sinatra recorded In the Wee Small Hours, which is considered the very first concept album. Ella and Louis came out in 1956, revolutionizing what we'd consider pop, John Coltrane released Blue Train in 1958 which was massive for hard bop, Miles Davis released Kind of Blue in 1959 which had a free style that opened the doors wide for improvisation in music, the same year Marty Robbins released his epic Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs which made individual stories out of tracks.

What is your favorite piece of music of this decade? I know I titled this as "album" initially but it can be a band, album, artist, or just a few songs from the era that come to mind.

Mine is Marty Robbin's Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. A lot of the songs on it have amazing stories to them with beautiful guitar throughout.

the 1950's the decade the started modern rock. It was the decade that gave us a new sound and changed music forever.

My favorite type of music from the 1950's would be the Rockabilly as it is now known as. I also liked the Do-Wop sound

Some of my favorite Rockabilly Artists are Roy Orbinson, Elvis, Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly.

Do-Wop Artists I really liked the Flamingos, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, Coasters, Platters, and others

Some of my favorite songs.
Rock Around the Clock Bill Halley
See you later Alligator Bill Haley
Shake Rattle n Roll by Billy Haley
Oobbie Dobbie by Roy Orbinson
Bye Bye Love Everly Brothers
Walk the Line by Johnny Cash
Wear my Ring by Elvis

Favorite Do-Wop songs from the 50's
Eyes for you Flamingos
Charlie Brown by the Coasters
Poison Ivy by the Coasters
Blue Berry Hill by Fats Domino
Ain't that a shame by Fats Domino
Lonley Teardrops by Jackie Wilson
Smoke gets in your eyes by the Platters
